I replaced the strings with a set of already broken in Alphayue strings and Fiddlershop composite tailpiece that has more responsive fine tuners. When the pegs slipped, I used a small bit of rosin to help them set. After placing the bridge per an easy to understand YouTube video and some patient tuning, I had an easy to play violin that, while not heirlooms quality, had a very nice mellow sound, very much like a clarinet. All in all, I made a nice little wall hanger / beater fiddle for around $90. The case, shoulder rest, and bow were adequate for the task. Not bad at all.

DO NOT BUY. All of the strings almost immediately broke. Bridge would not stay in place. The rosin did absolutely nothing. The tuner didn’t work. When trying to play with the bow it didn’t even make noise. Very disappointing.

I love this violin. It plays great but it does need a little bit of help to stay in tune. I love it even though it has that one negative problem. It sits really comfortably on my shoulder and it doesn't break the bank.

If you need a fleet of stringless instruments for a bunch of kids to try holding the bow and violin in position this is for you. This is not for a beginer unless you want to hate playing an instrument. I played violin for 5 years in school. It is pretty wild you can get a string "instrument" with accessories (case, shoulder rest, rosin, bow, tuner) at for under $100. The instrument makes noise but that is about where the good part ends. The negative: *The tuning pegs don't hold. Maybe with a bunch of fussing around they would but who wants that? *The rosin sucks. Even with roughing it up getting it on the bow isn't great *The bow isn't good. It took a bit to get it playable from the frog turning pin being very stiff and difficult to tighten. I wasn't sure it was going to get there for a while. As a separate note I had just purchased a brand new bow for the same price as this instrument and it was a very different experience. Summary: You get what you pay for here. Any violin that costs less than $200 will likely have the same challenges. If you know how to play and just want a toy to see if you still "got it" go ahead and go for it. If you have no other option for your child go ahead and see if you can buy a used one or borrow from the school. This "instrument" will cause a lot of frustration especially for someone just starting.

Within one week the fine tuner is broken. The pin won't stay in to tune the G string. And the bow hair keeps breaking.
