I will preface this with the fact that I have my doctorate in metallurgy, this is not my first melt. I was really excited to be able to do some casting at home, and have had good luck with the brand so far, so I thought I would give this a try. I preheated the crucible to 500 for 30 minutes, added some copper, brought it to 900, let it dwell for 30 minutes and then brought it up to 1100. Melting of the copper started and I wanted to ensure it was fully melted so I checked again about 15 minutes and noticed re-solidification. I turned off the heater and let it cool to about 500C and pulled the crucible out. Picture above showing the copper made its way down to the thermocouple and destroyed the ceramic base plate. True shame.

Love this thing. I have used bigger propane versions and this is so much easier to use. Love the digital controls. Makes casting jewelry and coins so much easier

Does not melt copper as advertised. It does reach the temperature but after 4 hours still did not melt. It is easy to use and great size for small projects but cost to much not to work as advertised

The only complaint I have with this melting furnace is that the lining is not coated nor do they provide you with the material to coat it, Had they provided rigidizer and or refractory cement, I would give 5 stars across the board. You can obtain these through Amazon but plan on spending at least another $30. I suppose It might work without these items but I don't think it would last very long without them. I like the dual gauge propane regulator and for the price can't complain about the supplied tongs (you will probably want better lifting tongs eventually). The molds that come with it are pretty worthless (10 Kg crucible and a couple of ounce mold) but nice that they included something. Get you the molds you want and extra crucibles for each type of metal you want to melt and you will be set. Overall good for the money.

The forge is exactly like the Devil Forge I currently own. I can see no physical differences in the smelter itself. There is a difference in regulator gauge (this one is more robust) and the pipe into the smelter. Just like with Devil Forge, you need to buy refractory cement to seal the wool so that it works at its maximum and also prevents you from breathing in fibers. I'm very happy!
