I really love this machine. Took me about an hour to put together with great instructions. Two things to watch out for. 1. Make sure the emergency shutoff is not engaged or you'll spend hours trying to figure out why the machine is not working. 2. Watch your cable runs. Make sure nothing is connected in a way it will come loose when operating. Other than that, the cnc operated flawlessly. I use Easel software, I think it's much more user friendly than any others.

I have a side hustle that generates steady work and a meaningful amount of money. I bought this s4040 the last week of March 2026 because I needed to quickly set up a machine and get it producing. This Vevor s4040 machine is extremely similar to the old Fox Alien Basic Edition from the early-ish 2020s. Nearly same chassis and spoilboards. That FA Basic was a decently capable 4040 machine at the entry level. But this Vevor machine is better, its got some upgraded features (spindle, enclosed control box, offline controller, better step motors). And it's cheaper than the old Fox Alien Basic edition ever was. So y'all understand the Vevor business model right... a catalog of private label stuff, rebranded from other mfgs. I believe strongly this machine comes out of the Fox Alien mfg ecosystem. And its a way better model than what Fox Alien sells for its entry level 4040, and its cheaper by about $250. Yeah there are tradeoffs I'm sure, the biggie being potentially almost no useful support from Vevor on this item. Just analyze it's problems such that you encounter them as those of an entry level FA machine. I had no problems. Arrived to the midwest US 4 days ahead of schedule from New Jersey. Instructions are not great, which is typical of everything these days. To set it up in 3-4 hours I think you need to have set up a desktop cnc before. Power is set to 220 at start. Don't forget to change it to 110 to get it to work on household outlets. Turnkey on Easel. 300w spindle is reasonably quite at 12000 rpm. Its a 5 all the way.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Positive Points) • The materials used are solid and well assembled. • The XYZ toolpath motion is smooth and precise. • The 300W spindle supports reasonable feed and plunge rates. The manufacturer mentions that an upgrade to 500W is possible (but no higher and no router spindle). • The machine comes with a pre-installed wasteboard and threaded inserts, saving hours of setup time — a feature many more expensive CNCs don’t include. • The working area of 415×400 mm is excellent. (I’ve converted my entire workshop to metric, so this consistency saves me time every day). ________________________________________ ⭐⭐⭐ (Neutral / Slightly Negative) • The second Y-axis motor cable is routed underneath the machine, which is not ideal and makes maintenance or cable management awkward. ________________________________________ ⭐ (Major Issues) • The printed manual is almost useless for assembly. The video included on the USB drive is far more helpful. • After assembly, there is no real documentation explaining how to use the machine or configure it correctly. • Critical issue: When I first powered up the machine, I ran the sample engraving file from the USB stick. Since I didn’t know the expected size, I didn’t notice a problem. But when I launched my first personal job, the dimensions were off by a factor of three — the head hit the limits of the XY axes. It took me a full day to realize the firmware had been preloaded with incorrect $100 and $101 values — set to 240 instead of 80 steps/mm. I only received this information from support five days later. • Design flaw: The threaded holes in the wasteboard are poorly positioned. This photo illustrates that the inner rectangle represents the usable working area. Unfortunately, the bottom row of holes is aligned with the front X-axis limit, and the left and right holes are too close to the Y-axis limits. This makes clamping difficult. Shifting the holes outward by just 5 mm would have made a big difference. Conclusion: This is a good machine — but only for users who already have strong knowledge of CNC hardware, firmware, and software. It took me two months to reach the level where I could use it confidently. With the help of additional software tools, I can now operate the machine reliably and without issues. It’s a capable unit for many basic woodworking tasks, but the lack of proper documentation and support is a major drawback — perhaps understandable, as VEVOR sells such a wide variety of unrelated products. Note: In my rating system, if part of my experience deserves a 1-star comment, then the overall rating is 1 star — even if other aspects of the product are good.

Packaged securely and arrived way faster than the expected delivery date. The machine was pretty easy to put together but during install found out that the bed came in two pieces of MDF instead of one and wouldn't line up properly. The bed will suffice though until I grab a new solid sheet of MDF to fit in it's place.

Couldn’t get it to work at all. If you’re not familiar with cnc’s or easy cad it’s tough. For the money it seems worth it but I just didn’t have any more patience to try and figure it out

Great quality CNC machine. Great CNC for new machinists. Easy to put together and use. Has some quirks but they are easy to overcome with some practice. Overall a good craft quality CNC machine.
