I have hiked between 1,000 - 1,500 miles a year for the last 10 years and have used Vasque's for the last 8. Great on rocky terrain. I just finished the Pennsylvania Appalachian Trail known as Rocksilvania. Have found the support and durability on rocks to be great. Light enough to be fine on less rugged terrain. My previous pairs were all Vasque Breeze AT Low GTX Hiking Shoes. Can't get those any longer in my size. These appear to be all the same in fit and form. ... show more

    • These are not suitable replacements for the Mantra

I bought these Talus shoes hoping they would be a suitable replacement for the Vasque Mantra shoes. Unfortunately that is not the case. The Talus is stiff and not nearly as comfortable as the Mantra. When walking, the Talus is noisy and sounds more like a dress shoe. Click-clack, click-clack. No sneaking up behind your friends with these shoes. As for looks, the Talus looks OK. The tongue gap is a bit wide. Also, the shoes fit tight due to an extra layer of fabric where sides of the tongue attach to the upper. I've worn the Vasque Mantra shoes since early 2012. I've worn out three pairs. The Mantra was soft, comfortable, and quiet. The Mantra shoes felt like a part of my foot. I would buy the Mantra again if they resumed making them exactly as they once did. Vasque: Please resume making the Mantra! I know I'm not alone in this wish. Just reading the reviews of the Talus, I've seen others looking for a suitable replacement for the Mantra, but not finding it. Unfortunately I was in the same boat and had to try these anyway. ... show more

I have an older pair of these shoes that I bought about ten years ago and have hiked all over in them, in dry and wet conditions, with excellent performance. They are a bit heavier than manmade shoes, but the Nubuck uppers are very durable and flexible, (unlike some of the manmade uppers that tend to crack at the flex points over time). My older ones are now my yard shoes, and are still waterproof. Fit as expected, with good cushioning, plenty of toe room and no heel slip. Supplied with thick, flat laces that stay tied. I have been skeptical since Vasque has made a number of changes recently and nixed allot of my favorite shoes they offered for trail running and hiking and I had switched brands after picking up a couple of the newer models that were flatter and didnt fit right and longer. Im dipping my toes back into the Vasque pool hoping with this current offering they will be ok. These are great shouse, and they fit as did models 10+ years ago did and Im very excited. ... show more

New Vasque came in. Waterproof Goretex is more or less just a rubber shoe disguised as a hiking shoe. I’ll keep them for winter but I’m looking for the right day hiker again. Vasque has changed up their manufacturing apparently.
