  • USE A GOOD THICK GLUE TO MAKE THIS VERY SOLID! USE A GOOD THICK GLUE TO MAKE THIS VERY SOLID!
Color: Rustic Brown + Black Style: 3 Drawers
For the price...very happy with this. It is your basic idea quality screw together wood furniture. With that being said I think it was worth what I paid for it....packaged well, looks good, it went together well, it came with extra screws, in the end the parts lined up and it was as sturdy as expected (more on that in a second). For an office with many many opens and closes a day it would not be good...but for home use it will last a long time. Now...when I put ikea kind of furniture together I always start on a level surface like the dining room hardwood floor (not living room carpet). Put it together like the instructions say...but I always use glue on every single panel that attaches to another and ALWAYS GLUE THE TRACKS!!!. Use thick slow drying glue....put it together quickly, and when assembled and completed leave the assembled furniture on the flat surface and use something to give it a gentle lean/push or twist till you see everything line up perfectly...then let it sit there till your glue drys... With that process and tightening your screws perfectly (the small screws in particle board strip easier than most think)...you will have a nice piece of "OK" furniture. I am happy with this and glad I bought it. remember, build on level ground, DO NOT over tighten screws, use some good thick slow drying glue, gentle push to hold perfect straight till all glue drys....and you have a very solid file cabinet for your home. (And with the little screws you will have extra of..put them in the tracks in the middle...extra support helps) ... show more

  • Beautiful well engineered super sturdy filing cabinet.
Color: Rustic Brown + Black Style: 3 Drawers
This review is for the 3 large drawer wood file cabinet. It took a long time before I ran across this one. All the others were metal. Very happy with it. All the pieces fit together perfectly, well engineered and super sturdy. But it took a very long time to put together, over 4 hours, not complaining though. I'm 71 with arthritis, and fumble around a bit. There are over 50 very small screws that I would have a difficult time using a drill with. Also 32 - 1 and 7/8ths inch screws with an allen head. Screw driver and allen wrench provided. The wood finish is very nice, the drawers work very smoothly and again super sturdy. I just love it. The only problem I ran across was the rear of the drawers. The pilot holes were not deep enough for the 1- and 7/8ths inch screws to put on the back panel. The last half inch of tightening was very difficult and started to crack and bulge out the side of the drawer. This does not affect the performance of the drawer though. ... show more

The screws for the locks are too small and not long enough. They find it difficult to get the screws in, even with a drill. The screws for the locks were too small to get all 4 in. I was only able to get three of each screw in...." Read more Took a chance despite red-flag reviews and alas, I'm adding a red-flag review of my own. This 3-drawer file cabinet had the right dimensions to fit in a very specific place (it's a little shallower and not quite as wide as other units). We also liked the white, clean look. Although the price was attractive, that was not a primary consideration. The package with all the unassembled parts was a daunting sight -- no surprise -- but my husband, a pro at putting things together, got to work and during the 3 hours of labor (unpacking, inventorying, arranging, assembling) got it done. These were his two deal-breakers with this unit: 1) Some of the screws are too small to be suitable for particleboard assembly - e.g., the screws for attaching the drawer locks are short and thin and readily strip out their pre-drilled holes (they're intended for solid wood, not particleboard, but you can't substitute thicker screws due to the hole sizes in the locks' attachment plates) - leave these screws loose... the locks may wobble a bit but they shouldn't fall out; 2) If you tighten the metal rods into their receptacles (inside the drawer fronts) they'll put pressure on the white veneer and flake it off the front of the drawer -- leave these rods loose. (He applied transparent tape over the two white flakes (size of corn flakes) to keep them in place and moved that drawer to the bottom, where it's less visible.) Not until the end did we find issues like #1 and #2 above (final steps of assembly). When we explained and asked the seller for a replacement door front panel, this was their counter-offer: We can disassemble the unit, ship it back and they'll send us a new file cabinet to assemble. Perhaps they realize (hope?) that the extra 4+/- hours of work and inconvenience is an effective deterrent to their having to make this right in a fair and acceptable way. Our biggest lesson learned? We should have heeded this product's / seller's red-flag reviews." DO NOT BUY. ... show more

  • A decent product and a responsive manufacturer A decent product and a responsive manufacturer
Color: Rustic Brown + Black Style: 3 Drawers
I don’t usually submit lengthy reviews, but I thought I would post this time to give kudos to the manufacturer for responsiveness and to Amazon for prompt replacement and pickup. In late September, I ordered this file cabinet in the wood version. I read the reviews (the 5, 1 and 3 stars) and concluded that there were enough people who were happy with their purchase that I would try it. I knew it was furniture that would require assembly, and because I had assembled furniture in the past, I knew that it would involve patience and a bit of time. I was actually on schedule to have assembled the file cabinet in one evening (a leisurely 3-4 hours) and ran into an issue: the screws (Part #5) and the connectors (part #2) would not work when trying to attached the drawer sides (Parts J & K) to the front of the drawer (Part I) in illustration 11 of the instructions. It seemed like either the connector was too short or the holes in Parts J & K are too high, but in any event, the connector was not long enough for the fasters to reach the top of the connector (see the first picture) At first I thought I simply got a one-off item with a packaging error, so when I called Amazon, they sent a replacement file cabinet. However, when the replacement file cabinet arrived, the issue was the same. I then contacted the manufacturer, and they promptly replied. When I sent them picture showing how the screw was too short and asked what they could do, they immediately offered to replace the screws. See the second picture. The one on the RIGHT is the longer screw that ultimately fit to accomplish the drawer assembly. (As an aside: I am on the east coast and I believe the replacement screws came from somewhere west, close to or in California….it took a week for the product to arrive and I started to wonder if they sent it by Pony Express – like an actual one horse powered pony!!) I write this review in the hopes that I can help others avoid the disappointment of finding you may not have the correct parts, so please check that the screws for the drawers look like the ones on the RIGHT – they need to be longer. Yes, I think it’s a problem that quality control didn't catch the error in the parts, but at the end of the day, you should know that the file cabinet is a decent product and the manufacturer was responsive. Make no mistake, this product is particle board and not solid wood. When I first encountered the problem, I considered returning the file cabinet to find an alternative (thinking: surely this is not the only one I might like), however, I was not impressed with the alternatives (cost or appearance), so I took the long route with the return process. As to the tools, I saw others commenting about cheesy or flimsy tools. I will remind purchasers to keep in mind that you are buying a file cabinet, not a quality set of tools (allen wrench and screwdriver). Power tools and a better screwdriver will help, but the most important tool is your own patience. I also recommend reading the other reviews about the collar that goes around the lock; the screws are short and are not forgiving if they need to be screwed in twice (in other words measure twice and cut/screw once). Another commenter noted that the locks were not as effective as they hoped. Here again, I must remind purchasers to keep in mind that you’re buying a home use FILE CABINET, not an industrial use office file cabinet or a security lock box. If you want security, buy a separate lock box or get a safety deposit box!! These locks will NOT keep out a determined person, child or a roommate. Personally, I think the real purpose for the locks is to prevent the drawers from accidentally sliding open if someone installs them in a house with a slight dip/incline. By the way, DO NOT overlook the safety screws to the wall!! I’m not sure why people might not realize that although it is be more convenient to fill the top drawer with important items, it becomes a serious tipping hazard. This file cabinet weighs approximately 65 lbs and it is easy to think that it’s heavy enough to stand up without falling, but it can become top heavy and tip over really quickly!! I can’t say it any better: if you have small pets or children (or value your feet!) secure this file cabinet to the wall at a stud!!! Last note: Amazon was great about picking up the replacement file cabinet that also had the same screw problem. The only issue I have with Amazon is that it takes a herculean effort to find out how to talk to a person!! Chat bots DO NOT work all of the time because they have a limited script and no ability to reach conclusions! Conclusion: 1 - this is a decent product and seems to be reasonably well made and looks good for a particle board product. 2 - Know what you’re getting into when it comes to assembly; the instructions are illustrations which are easy to follow, and instant gratification DOES NOT work here. 3 - Make your first step an inventory of all parts to make sure you have everything. 4 – from my personal experience, check out the screws and how they are supposed to fit with the drawers. The non fitting parts are the ONLY reason I gave this product a 4 instead of a 5, and even though the manufacturer promptly made it right, I cannot reward mediocrity in quality control with a perfect score. ... show more

  • Sturdy and good looking. Sturdy and good looking.
Color: Rustic Brown + Black Style: 3 Drawers
Well constructed and sturdy. Good looking, easy to assemble. Drawers open and close smoothly. Feels and looks like real wood even though it is "engineered wood". It is exactly what I needed.

  • A lot of work to assemble
Color: Ink Black Style: 2 Drawers
Once it's together, the drawers work smoothly. But boy, what a slog to get it done. I am no fan of particle board. On this product many of the pre-drilled screw holes did not go deep enough thus requiring extra force to get the screws to go in. Many times that extra force caused the particle board to split or crumble. Very frustrating. When finished, the cabinet tips over easily when you open the drawers. They provide brackets to secure the cabinet to a wall. The brackets are meant to mount flush to the wall. But if your walls have base mouldings, like mine, the brackets can't be mounted flush and and secure. I purchased some brackets intended to prevent furniture from tilting over. It's not a great work-around and doesn't look good, but it's necessary if you have base mouldings. All's well that ends well - I have a working file cabinet at a decent price. But honestly, I would not have bought it had I realized how frustrating it would be to assemble. I would look for a preassembled cabinet, and one NOT made of particle board. It's horrible stuff. ... show more
