I know that plastic straws are the dinosaurs' revenge against mammalian dominance, trying to kill every turtle, puppy, and child. I realize that these plastic tubes become weapons of mass destruction the nonebt they escape from our seemingly harmless soda glasses. But isn't there an alternative to the soggy, weepy, limp thing tainting my afternoon caffeine dose?! Enter the collapsible, portable, metal straw. This tiny thing clips to your purse or satchel (however you want to label that thing hanging at your side) with a handy carabiner. It extends to match every size from "I just need to wash down this cookie" to "please save me from this interminable afternoon!" The included cleaning rod fits easily inside the collapsed rod. Be sure to leave it sticking out just enough to grab with your fingernails or you will find yourself searching for a pen to extract it during the worst of your caffeine withdrawal symptoms Even TSA seems to consider this small piece of metal safer than your average fingernail clipper! More and more restaurants have made the responsible switch away from plastic straws but that usually means you have to use a paper straw - which I hate. They usually fall apart before you finish drinking. I bought these for our family travels to Europe this summer where plastic straws are not a thing. I was SO glad we had them. They are easy to clean with the included telescoping brush. They are small and lightweight. There is a small rubber mouthpiece you can put onto the end of the straw but I didn't feel like it needed it. The clip is convenient if you want to hook it onto a bag but I didn't use that either. They are small and lightweight enough they easily fit inside my fanny pack for the day. I’ve been eyeing reusable straws for a while because they are just an easy way to help the planet and cut down on plastic , also they’re just more convenient. One of the cons I will say is that I find it a struggle to clean the inside of the cover. Because it is such a tight spot, it’s hard to get anything down deep enough to clean it and any gunk that finds its way there is going to be such a hassle to clean. On the other end it works, it’s lightweight and doesn’t take too much space. So if you are looking for a reusable straw this can get the job done, but personally if I had the chance to buy it again I wouldn’t take it, I would probably go with one that comes in a cover/container that it easier to clean. ... show more

    • One Telescoping Section Keeps Slipping... UPDATED

The seller graciously replaced my initial order unsolicited, as I truly was not asking for a replacement (whether intentionally or subliminally). The replacement order is perfect and now the straw cases come in colors, which is even better. Just to show you how pleased I am with these darned things, I bought the "Rainbow" straw for my girlfriend and she is absolutely thrilled with it... it's totally her and totally cool. As a first hand witness of the carnage plastic straws and other materials wreak on the beaches of Belize and beyond, anything we can do to stem the ridiculous abuse of the planet for our insensitive whimsies is worth it in my opinion. First, I really like this straw... everything from the portability to the ease of use is great if you're a dude and don't have a purse to throw it into. But that being said, the one annoying thing that happens to me is one of the telescoping sections will not stay fully extended and keeps sliding back inside my drink. I've contacted the seller and they suggested really pulling this little guy open (fully extended) and see if that helps, but no... you just have to be really aware that it will slip down and try to keep it under control. I've toyed with the idea of "crimping" the section a little to provide some missing friction, but am leery of harming the entire thing in the process, so I just deal. It's probably just my particular unit, but I'm just throwing my experience out there in case it happens to anyone else. ... show more
