Description

This reed is designed to produce a quality of extremely pure sound due to a very thin reed tip (the area of Reed with maximum vibration), being balanced by a solid vertebral column (more cane in the area which climbs gradually to the heel). These reeds are recognizable by a straight line to delineate the limit of the area of bark. The favorite reed of classic saxophonists worldwide since marcel Mule, it has always been (and is still) used with equal success by many players.

Relatively new to the sax and have been using Rico reeds from the start. I’ve been using these (Vandoren) for a while now and it’s not even close. The quality of these is above and beyond. Great reeds for beginners! They are packed and sealed individually to keep quality. Sound is also good, at least for me. Those saxophone things are quite expensive in my opinion so I don't have much room to test different types of reeds. I started on these reeds 30 years ago. Moved away from them about 25 years ago to Superials, Lavoz. These days, I usually play the green and red Java reeds. Never again. These sound so much better! I get a bright contemporary sound on a ARB 6, without any unwanted "synthetic buzz". Just clean contemporary sound. It was that last touch I was looking for. Very happy! I used these on saxaphone when I was in middle school and my son does now but was having trouble with size 3. We got the size 2 and he said it was like he unlocked sound he never could make before and was able to articulate very easily. It's worth every penny.

I'm a beginner and this was my first box of reeds ever. I'm also somewhat of a germaphobe. The fact that I've taken up an instrument that involves so much saliva is a HUGE leap for me in progressing toward becoming a bit more normal. That said, I really love individually wrapped things. I don't know if all reeds are sold like this, but individually wrapped products are among the greatest things on this earth, and I was really happy when I opened this box! I opened a few of them and, according to my instructors (various youtube videos and online forums), all the reeds I opened were in good shape. I haven't opened all 10, but it seems that none of the ones I've opened so far need to be sanded or thrown out. I've heard a lot about how all boxes of reeds with 10 or more in them have at least a few that must be thrown out or worked on, so maybe I just haven't opened those yet, but so far these look great! They taste ok too :P Oh yeah, they work well too. Of course I don't have much experience and I'm still having some trouble with this goose that keeps sneaking into my saxophone every now and then, but the reed certainly seems to be doing its job. It only took me a few seconds to create my first note and there's been absolutely no problem with the reed - I don't even have to think about the reed itself at all - just about how I'm using it :) ... show more
