I will not claim a refined palate by any stretch, but I can tell when wine has been open more than a day or so, and it’s not as enjoyable. If you’re not finishing the bottle at once, this is the quick and easy way to keep it fresh for next time. Never done any testing, but I’d say at least a week if not more (to my unrefined palate, see above). Pump is easy to use, there’s only one way to insert the cork and place the pump on it, only one moving part, and the mechanism starts clicking when it’s pulled enough vacuum. Completely foolproof. I’ve had one of these since the 90’s and never worn anything out - the corks get lost, and I’ve given our pumps to friends and family who wanted to try it out over the years (that’s actually why I placed this last order). The design changed once that I know of, in the early/mid 2000’s, but has been the same since then. What that means to me is that when I lose either corks or a pump, I can order more and know that it continues to work with the stuff I have already (pet peeve of mine is things that change so you can’t use the new widget with your existing stuff and you have to change over everything). Really just reviewing because Amazon is pushy about asking for it, but if you look at the other reviews it’s pretty clear that it’s a winner. Most of the 1-star ones that I skimmed were for messed up packaging, not the pump itself. ... show more

I don't know where this thing has been all my life. I saw this being used one time at a wine bar. This thing is so amazing it will keep a bottle of prosecco fresh for a couple of days as long as you keep it pumped up/vacuumed.

I am an occasional wine drinker, drinking a glass or two once in a while. However, this occasional drinking became an expensive indulgence because by the time I had the next glass in a few days , the previously opened bottle had gone bad, and I would have had to open a brand new bottle. I more or less stopped drinking wine for this reason. Vacu Vin has fixed that problem! I frankly was skeptical that it would be effective but it is just works and is simple to operate - put the cork in, a few pulls of the pump and the wine is sealed nice and tight. How do I know it works? There is a hiss of the air rushing in when you open the ‘cork’ a few days later. And the wine tastes great. Best money I have spent on ‘wine’. ... show more

These do the trick! Easy to use, perfectly seals the bottle, can even leave the bottle on its side and no leaking after it is sealed. Keeps the wine stable for much longer than a normal wine stopper or putting the cork back in.
