Description

The author believes the immense value of the images of the Holy Face of Jesus is they make the presence of the sacred and supernatural tangible. Like icons, they provide a “window to Heaven.” They “lead us into the inner room of prayer and bring us close to the heart of God” (Henri Nouwen). They remind us of Jesus’ both human and divine nature. The icons Veronica’s Veil and the Shroud of Turin remind of Jesus’ presence in our daily lives and invite us to pray and meditate in contact with the Lord. This is the usual purpose and use for having images of Jesus in our lives, but the author contends they also have another value by helping us deal with and overcome temptation. The book presents a special look at how seeing an image of Jesus can serve as a “Stop Sign” to prevent us from giving into temptation. He notes that when we do not have sacred images clearly visible around us, God becomes “out of sight, out of mind.” He rallies the cause for Holy Face of Jesus images to be “in sight and in our minds.” They are a great and powerful means to help us “Say No!” to the temptations to sin.
