Where do I even begin??? First off, if you're looking into getting this book, I recommend checking out Anna Miriam Brown's musical that she wrote for this. You can find the video containing all the songs on YouTube, and believe me, it is worth every second! It premiered on Christmas Eve and I received a reminder notification just minutes before it started. I had only recently seen some of Anna's content, and it was intriguing to me at the time, so I subscribed and figured I'd follow along and see what I thought. I planned to just play it as background music while I folded laundry, not really knowing what to expect, but it quickly became clear that it was far more than just background music. I was FULLY invested, moved beyond words. I knew that I just had to get the book, and so I did as soon as possible. I impatiently waited for the day it would arrive, and when I grabbed the mail that day, I immediately ripped open the package and read the beginning. As a wife and mama, I didn't have the choice to read endlessly, but I honestly feel like maybe that was a good thing. I could have easily devoured the entire book in a day or two, but then I wouldn't have had the necessary time to reflect on each section I read like I did when I was busy with my typical household tasks. Nevertheless, I still finished the book within a handful of days, reading during naps, at bedtime, and little moments in the day when we would all do our own thing. This book grabbed a hold of me in a way that only the best books do. I've read many good books, but this one takes its place among my favorites, the ones I cherish deep within my heart and mind. Not only is it based on a real Biblical story (using imagination), but also it has a real and raw feel that touches you to your core. These aren't just characters with no depth, written to simply fulfill a plot; these are people, individuals with complex emotions and experiences. I don't often cry when I read books, but I cried as I read this one. Anna isn't afraid to dive into the deepest, darkest parts of life, because she knows it's a necessary part of learning to rise from the ashes. ... show more

    • Favorite read…maybe ever!!!
WOW WOW WOW!! The storyline is so intricate and there is so much deep revelation throughout the story! You feel ALL the feelings reading this book. The excitement, the frustration, the shame, the despair…I won’t spoil it but this truly gave me so much revelation to understand Jesus, why he came how he did, and to who he did. Just like today, there are characters caught up in religion and those that are in desperate need of a savior. And none are beyond redemption. Beautiful story, incredible work, and satisfying ending. I’m used to books that take you on an emotional roller coaster then at the end it seems like they leave loose ends or leave you wanting more. The ending left me satisfied but deeply impacted and I’m finding myself listening to the music over and over to relive the story! If you’ve made it this far, just get the book, you won’t regret it! ... show more

This book was seriously so good!!! You know a book is good when you genuinely get mad at the characters, laugh with them, cry with them, and relate. Anna is such a talented writer and I can’t wait for her to publish more books! Also reading the book and listening to the musical at the same time is 💯 If someone reading this review is on the fence….buy this book! It’s such a creative story woven with beautiful prose, heartbreak, emotions, and most of all redemption!!!! Also read if you want to feel slightly depressed until the very end hahah. But it’s so worth it! ... show more

This is such a good read- you will not want to stop for anything (except maybe grabbing tissues!). The themes are so relatable to anyone. I loved it! It's definitely one that I will be rereading.

    • It BROKE me and then put me back together.
Review written by Kaysha Sorrell: Of Ashes is the perfect title for this book. My heart broke as I saw the characters fall further and further into self destruction and hopelessness. I even felt hopeless. It was so hard to see Ashra fall deeper and deeper into despair out of her desperation. BUT out of the ASHES she rose into a new identity-as a DAUGHTER of the High King… And oh, how beautiful it was. This precious story of redemption brought me to tears as I thought of how deep the Father’s love is for each of His children. These stories from the Bible mean so much more to me now as they portray the heart of Christ. Anna, thank you for saying yes to God and writing this book. It will change lives. ... show more

I had seen reels about the musical on Instagram. I was immediately hooked. I bought the physical book and the kindle version. WOW!! I listened to the musical before reading and the songs and emotions made sense as I read the book. I sobbed through a lot of the end. I know this is expanding and imagining differences from the Bible, but the message behind it remains. Only He can take all of our brokenness and make us new. Read this book, and listen to the musical! ... show more

    • AMAZING GET IT
i have never been so intrigued with a book in my whole life! i am a vary visual learner and as a Christian who is a visual learner this made understand Jesus love on a deeper level i mean i definitely knew what Jesus love did and how it feels and that it is deep and never runs out … BUT THIS MADE IT ALL CLICK! made me in absolute awe of who Jesus is and i always have been but this made me see him in a different way in the best way, for real in complete awe of who he is i laid on my floor crying for a hour! this is the book is eye opening and interesting and so fun to read! it is based on the adult read woman so ofc there’s a few parts that are not ratted pg BUT THIS BOOK IS A STORY OF Redemption and i believe that every one needs to read it 😂 ... show more
