Description

The USI Electric MICN109 Hardwired Ionization, Carbon Monoxide and Natural Gas Alarm is a 3-in-1 device that provides protection against three deadly household threats: fast-flaming fires, carbon monoxide and natural gas (or methane) in a single installation. Perfect for new or replacement installations, the 120-volt AC/DC hardwired alarm is suitable for houses, apartments and mobile homes. Advanced smoke recognition gives the MICN109 a faster response to smoldering fires than conventional smoke alarms. Auto sensitivity calibration provides superior nuisance alarm protection and creates consistency in alarm sensitivity. This alarm has additional automatic features including a self-diagnostics check and a sensitivity adjustment for changes in temperature or humidity. The 9-volt alkaline battery (included) continues protection in the event of a power outage. This alarm features a front-loading battery drawer for replacement without removing the alarm from the bracket. Mount the bracket to any standard wiring junction box and use the large mounting base to cover imperfections in drywall. The plastic dust cover protects the alarm and (2) tamper-resistant locks prevent unwanted alarm or battery removal. For maximum protection, install an alarm inside every bedroom, outside every sleeping area and on all levels of the dwelling. Comes with a 7 year limited warranty. • So nothing happened for 3 years which is sad. Move up to December 2016
Size: Pack 1
I purchased these combo detectors to replace the USI-7795 that my house came with when built in 2009, The 7795 started giving us fits and false alarms in about 2013, and after calls to USI for help troubleshooting I gave up and just removed them from the ceiling leaving the ugly wire e harness hanging down. (I still had 5 USI-1204 smoke detectors in use) All the detectors were wired together so I wasn't sure what type of compatibility issues I might run into if I tried to mix and match brands, I knew i didn't want to buy more USI-7795s. So nothing happened for 3 years which is sad. Move up to December 2016, and the USI-1204 smoke detectors started with false alarms. I admit I have been doing some light remodeling in the house that involved some sanding. I never thought to cover the detectors. Also after some research, I was reminded that these type of detectors do have a short life span. I assumed since they were warranted for 5 years, the expected lif must be close and mine were 7 years old with lots of extra dust. I checked the USI website, and the 7795 had been discontinued and replaced by the MICN109, which also offered a natural gas detection. The website said the MICN109 would fit on the base of the 7795 which were still in place. I also ordered 5 new 1204 smoke detectors directly from USI, but amazon was the best price on these. The good news is when I installed them, the wiring harness did match but the base did have to be changed to the new one that came with it. Better the base with 2 screws than turning off the power and re-wiring. So far, so good. It is hard to give a product a 5 star when you don' even know how well it's actually going to do it's job, until there is an emergency. The price was good, the seller shipped fast. Hopefully this helps someone who has trouble with the 7795. ... show more

  • Out of date
Size: Pack 1
The detector appears to be fine but imprinted on it was a manufacture date of 2015 and an expiration date of 2022. It clearly is a new detector that has apparently been sitting on a shelf for 7 years so I guess it is OK but that seems a bit odd. I still installed it and it appears like new.

  • Works well but the LED is brighter than I would wish
Size: Pack 1
Purchased as a replacement for a previous model of smoke detector from the same company. I've never had any of the problems described for this brand that others have described in reviews of other models, and I've lived with this brand for more than five years. I purchased the same brand because of the good track record and to ensure interoperability among all the detectors employed in my home. I like that this product works for not only smoke but also carbon monoxide and natural gas. It appears to work well and I have not encountered any "nuisance alarms," i.e., false alarms. My only issue with this model is that the green LED that indicates it is operational is rather bright. For the detectors in public areas of my home, this poses no issue, but in the bedrooms the light from the LED is much brighter than I would wish. It's not bright enough to actually illuminate the room but it is bright enough to see it easily from anywhere in the room when the lights are off, and casts enough light to illuminate the outline of the unit against the surface it's mounted on. This might not bother some folks and in that case, I would definitely recommend this detector. If you prefer to have your sleeping area pitch black, however, you may find the LED on this detector too bright. My suggestion to the manufacturer would be to have an LCD indicating that the unit is working, saving use of an LED for times that that unit is actually sounding an alarm (since the color of the LED on this unit indicates what type of problem it's detecting, in conjunction with the type of alarm being sounded). That way, no light would come from the unit at all at night, while not impairing the operation or status communication of the device. ... show more

  • Not what is pictured and manufactured 4 years ago
Size: Pack 1
I did not want an alarm that had a built in battery so this is the reason I purchased this model. Both the picture and the specifications table has it taking a 9 volt battery. What arrived was an alarm that had a built in 10 year battery that was manufactured in 2018. Seeing that it’s 2022 I guess I will be replacing it in 6 years, not 10 years. ... show more

  • Easily attached to existing wiring harness.
Size: Pack 1
I didn’t detect that it was a sealed unit so in 8-10 years I will need to replace units rather than batteries.
