  • Know what you're buying
Style: 3018PRO+Offline controller
Don't buy this if you really don't know what you're getting into. I'll grant that if you take your time, exhibit some foresight, and pay attention to detail, this will assemble into a very sturdy and capable little machine. Understand that it is SMALL, with a work envelope only about 6"x12"x2". That's about the size of one low shoe. Understand, too, that you might be brickwalled by the CAM used to control it from your PC; there aren't very many inexpensive or free options out there, the most popular being Candle(BRBL) 1.1.7... which absolutely refuses to run on any computer I own (and I own a LOT of computers). Next best candidate is LinuxCNC, which also also refuses to run on any Linux machine I own. I'm experimenting with UGS, and it looks promising. Fortunately, you can also use nearly any CAM to generate gcode and transfer it to the CNC router with a MicroSD card, using the tiny "offline controller" to make it run. Speaking of which...you should be aware that the "offline controller" is tiny. It's much smaller than you think it should be. The little screen, for example, is only about 1" diagonal and the overall size is only about the same as one deck of playing cards. You can use a Fresnel lens to magnify the display, though, and later you can add a much larger scale offline controller. You will find that this little machine really begs to be upgraded in many regards. You'll want to change out the solid motor-to-screw couplings early on to flexible couplings, and replace the linear bearings with polymer ones, and absolutely add dual limit switches to every axis. You should really consider replacing the spindle motor with a larger one, say 500W, which will require a larger spindle mount to match... and you might want a taller Z axis gantry and spindle carrier system... but that latter is much lower priority than the rest. It's a neat little machine for the price. It's not a drop-in, idiotproof machine but it's also not a complete turd. You might get lucky and be able to run Candle (or something like it) on your computer, which will make your life easier. Just don't expect much. After all, it's not very expensive. Do I regret having bought one? No. It'll give me lots of tinkering time, which I prize. I'd rather have bought this than a prebuilt shoo-in machine that costs ten times as much money. ... show more

  • lousy support.
Style: 3018PRO
Nice kit. Til i noticed the package was missing the Y-axis nut seat. Called support. They (semi automated) referred me to L star. L star doesn't carry parts, They are a drop ship distributor... Warentee means shipping it back. Life is too short. Lucky I have a big mill...

  • Superb machine to create small parts on, or to learn 2.5D CNC
Style: 3018PRO+Offline controller
It's amazing what is available to us today. For less than $150 this little CNC is surprisingly capable and precise. My first day running it I designed and carved a desk sign, hardest part is learning the software. I've already tried a few programs to see what works best for me. Carbide Create looks like a winner, but you have to find and download version 6; they crippled version 7. I am also learning FreeCAD from YouTube tutorials. There are several good channels that have more than enough information to get up and running. I've wanted to learn CAD for a while, and this machine already has me wanting something bigger. Not to replace it, as it will still be useful for anything that fits on it's bed, but to be able to make larger projects. Gotta say that the one and two star reviews really sound like Karens who couldn't be bothered to actually put any effort into it! ... show more

  • A good place to start
Style: 3018PRO+Offline controller
The machine is easy to assemble. I had to work quite a bit to get the frame square and running smoothly. The bearings are smooth and there is about 6 thousands of an inch backlash on the X and Y axis. The z axis is tight and runs about 2 thousands backlash. I really wish they had included limit switches or at least laid out a place to mount them. I'm worried about running a tool path and accidentally running out of travel. Otherwise the machine does what the manufacturer says it will. ... show more

  • Fairly easy to asemble
Style: 3018PRO+Offline controller
Everything was OK, although assembly instructions could have been better. I had to disassemble parts because order of assembly was not clear, and hardware was not clearly identified. One of the anti-backlash screws was defective, I sent a message to the supplier and they responded quickly. I was offered a partial refund which I accepted. The machined worked as well as I expected. the 3 stars was because of the instructions, not the part ... show more

  • Great little machine
Style: 3018PRO+Offline controller
Great little machine. Having CNC knowledge makes this machine a breeze to run. After finding some programs online to design and post programs I have found this unit useful. It isn't very rigid, but that's where lighter cuts come in.

  • Total crap! Total waste of time!
Style: 3018PRO
Bough this thing to tinker with and learn fusion 360. I did not have high expectations other than it would cut some thin wood. It can't even print the test files on the flash drive without binding and losing its position and scrapping the part. I am an aerospace engineer, machinist and build rocket fuel systems and rocket engines for a living so putting this thing together, aligning is not new to me. stepper motors are useless, have enough torque to spin the bent threaded rod all the way across the stroke. Get something else or build your own from scrap parts from a laser or something you will be happier. won't even waste my time reaching out to the manufacturer they will just send more crap that don't work anyway. ... show more
