  • Very useful, if a bit messy
I was originally going to get one of those juicers that's just a motorized lemon squeezer, which I've had before and worked well enough. But I thought I'd try something more upgraded, especially if it could do more than just citrus. I have a tendency to buy too much produce and I hate having to either freeze/can them or wind up tossing them in the compost if they go bad. So this juicer is pretty great because it gives me another option for saving fruit and veggies that need to be used ASAP. Even a savory veggie I might not want to drink as juice can be used for making broth or stew. Pros: * Not as loud as I was afraid of. It's really not much louder than my food processor, maybe even a bit quieter. * Very fast juicing. * The suction cups keep it firmly attached to the counter. * The parts are dishwasher safe so I can just toss them in. Cons: * It is a bit messy. The spout spattered a bit when I was juicing a couple of apples (not with the oranges) and no matter how careful I was, I wound up with drips and bits of pulp all over the counter. * Large pieces of pulp still wound up in the juice, so I had to strain it after. * Pulp managed to get embedded pretty much everywhere. About a third of the pulp wound up not in the pulp container. A note about cleaning: Even with a dishwasher, make sure you scrub off any residue that doesn't just rinse right off. Especially citrus, since the heat from the dishwasher will just bake it onto the pieces, especially the top plastic piece. Also, use the brush that came with it for the blades and filter! It's absolutely necessary because rinsing and the dishwasher alone won't be enough. The messiness and cleanup was a bit of a down side because this is not a juicer I'd want to use for just pulling out and making a glass of juice. If I'm going to do all the work of cleanup, I would rather make sure I get a quart out of it. A note about oranges/citrus: Yes, you can throw the whole orange in there, peel and all. However, depending on the type of orange, you might get a bitter flavor from the pith. The thicker the pith, the more of a bitter flavor or flavor like you're eating plain peel. If you don't like that flavor, then peel the oranges. Though if you just want to cut the bitterness, you can add some apple juice to increase the sweetness or use half whole oranges and half peeled oranges. You can also mix and match citrus fruits. Clementines and mandarins will be much sweeter than the usual navel orange. Sometimes I like to make my own pectin from citrus peels for making jam. The leftover pulp from juicing orange peels is pretty good for that. The leftover pulp from juicing fruit and veggies also makes excellent compost, far better than whole peels. ... show more

  • Solid Juicer for Personal Use
The juicer comes packaged well, and includes a brush and cup to capture the juice. Instructions are a bit choppy on the English side, but are relatively clear. I did not see any recipes included, but the Internet makes those easy to find. I removed the juicer from the package and cleaned it quickly so I could try it out. I used apples, oranges and carrots. The apples and carrots were broken down quickly and without issue. The oranges seemed to make the motor slow down a bit and work harder, but it did get through them as well. The motor was quieter than expected which was nice. Overall the juicer did a fine job of juicing the ingredients. There did seem to be some amount of moisture still in the bits afterwards, so it is not the most efficient juicer, but that is normal for a centrifugal type juicer. The juicer did not move at all while in use, and the suction cup feet seem to stick to everything, so it is very stable in use. I went to clean the juicer, and there were some concerns. The juicer comes apart pretty easy once you get the hang of it. The basket is a bit tough to clean in the area just above the gasket. The gasket and metal basket come to almost a point or wedge shape which is difficult to get completely clean despite the easy to clean claim. The included cleaning brush did help quite a bit, but it was still a bit more work than I thought it should be. Overall, not too bad once you know where to work the brush, but a slightly more open design on the gasket, or a removable gasket might have made the cleanup a bit easier. I'm sure after a few cleanings, it won't be an issue, as long as you don't let it dry out in there. Overall I would recommend this juicer to anyone looking for a good basic juicer for personal use. Value for the price is good and the resulting juice is as tasty as your recipe makes it. Would rate this at 4.5 stars if I could, but since I can't, it gets rounded up. My only real concern is cleaning the area between the basket and gasket as dried fruit and veggies in there could be difficult to remove., so make sure you clean it promptly. ... show more
