I just received my umbrella and put it to test by holding it up against a large window where the sun was directly glaring into it. I opened it up and placed the umbrella fabric a few inches away from the glass. I was pleasantly surprised to see that no sun came through the fabric. I then held it up to the window where half the umbrella was in direct sunlight and the other half protected by the adjoining wall. There was absolutely no difference. I couldn't see any light coming through on either half. The instructions are on the hang tag attached to the handle. I like that the umbrella closes up by pushing the button in the same way one presses it to open it up. The only difference is that you have to the push the stem down towards the handle to latch it closed. It was easy enough to do and better than the complete manual process of less quality ones I have owned in the past. Once it latched, I gently pulled out the folds and was able to return it to the same neat way it arrived with the attached velcro strap. The sleeve is nice in that the closed umbrella slides easily into it and fits nicely. No skimping on the fabric and struggling to get it back in like another one I used own. The only improvement I would make might be a snap to keep the sleeve in place, but that isn't a deal breaker by any means. Highly recommend. All in all, this is a product I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to protect themselves from the sun during this record breaking summer heat. I bought this umbrella for a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. It was the most useful item I took with me. The sun in these countries is brutal and it rains anytime. This is a "priority item" if you are traveling to Asia. It protected me from the UV rays, keep you as cool as you are going to get, and it is great during storms, the wind did not break it. 1. Despite the fact I’ve not had this umbrella for long, I already like the automatic opening mechanism (after struggling with manual for a while). 2. It also seems to be more resistant to wind-inversion than lesser priced umbrellas. 3. I like the fabric used. It’s thin but double-layered for uv protection. After struggling with a previous umbrella that had thick, sticky fabric, I’m much happier with this one. I carry/use an umbrella daily for uv shielding, in addition to rain. Purchased this for an upcoming trip that will require being in the desert sun. But first used it in the broiling heat and humidity for an outdoor HOA meeting (in late July!). It pops open easily, provided great sun protection, and looks nice. It is compact, so excellent for travel. I bought this because it was highly rated. Silver shiny on the outside, thick black on the inside. I bought it to put in my baseball mom bag. First time using it today. Took off the cover- did great in some wind that lifted up a baseball canopy. But, had a couple pinpricks in the umbrella that I noticed as soon as I opened it. I give 2 out of 5 stars. Hard to have an umbrella used to block the sun that has a couple holes in it. I’m still going to use instead of return- because I am feeling lazy- but I would not recommend to others. ... show more

I bought one a decade ago during the last solar maximum and used it til last month when I gifted it to a person suffering heat stroke while begging. So I immediately bought another one. Seriously.
