  • Great Folding Dip Stand
When not in use, I store all my workout equipment in a small corner of my garage, so when I decided to get a dip stand, it had to be easily foldable for compact storage. The Ultimate Body Press was the only foldable model I could find, so I hoped it would work well. It didn't disappoint me. It goes together very easily and once you put your weight on it, it's rock solid. I felt very secure during dips. I even tried swinging during leg raises to further test its stability, and it remained totally stable. I just can't understand all the reviewers that complained about it being wobbly during use. The non-slip grips worked well, and I liked that they weren't padded. The entire dip stand seems very well made and I feel confident it will be durable in the long term. Folding it up for storage is also fast and easy. My only criticism is the use of stickers for color coding the assembly. Without the stickers, proper assembly would be difficult at best. One of my stickers was already pealing slightly when I received the dip stand, and it is very likely other stickers will loosen with use, so I added some clear tape all the way around the tube at each colored sticker, to make sure they stay attached. If you don't need a folding dip stand, there are plenty of good choices that are cheaper than the Ultimate Body Press, but if you need it to fold this is an excellent product. ... show more

  • Worth the Money
After reading the full spectrum of reviews here at Amazon as well as trying out numerous models of dip stations at local sporting good stores, I decided to give the Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand a try. While I ultimately gave the item five stars, let me begin with two minor complaints. First, assembly is not as easy as it could be. Each part is marked with a colored dot that slides into a second part with a corresponding colored dot. However, two of the colors (yellow and slightly darker yellow) are nearly indistinguishable in normal lighting and with a casual glance. If you stop and look for the difference, it's there, but it doesn't stand out. Once you've differentiated between two very similar shades of yellow dots, assembly is pretty straightforward. The directions are not terribly useful (which isn't that big of deal, since you really can't mess up matching colored dots), but I'd strongly encourage the company to rewrite them; they appear as if they were written by someone who is very familiar with the assembly process and not written for someone who had just received a box of parts. Second, after the product is assembled, there's a disturbing amount of play to it. For all intents and purposes, you wouldn't want something to which you were going to entrust your full body weight to wiggle a good deal and it does - but only until you put your body weight on it. Seriously. Please allow me to continue. This is a five star review after all. The Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand is well-designed and incredibly sturdy. Once your body weight is on it, it tightens up beautifully. Granted, the first time or two it's a little disconcerting to be able to stand next to the Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand and wiggle it as if all the joints are loose, only to have it be incredibly tight and stable when you apply your body weight to it. Once you've mounted the device, there's no play to it at all and it's just a hair below being rock solid. I realize how odd that sounds, but that was exactly my experience with the Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand. That said, it performs beautifully. I had been a dedicated member of my local gym for nearly ten years before it went out of business, at which point I decided to workout from home. The Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand was the missing piece of equipment in my home gym and I'm accustomed to doing a lot of dips at the gym. There is an extremely slight wobble to the device when doing body weight exercises on it (I weigh almost 200 pounds) but it isn't enough to be a distraction or a safety concern. Even when you reach the end of a set and your arms are shaking, the Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand remains very stable. If I hadn't been concerned by how much this piece of equipment wiggled when I stood next to it, the wobble while in use is so minute that I probably wouldn't have noticed it. Having done a lot of dips over the years, the wobble is very minor and I truly believe you'd need a solid weld, rather than a connection, to completely eliminate the play. The construction is solid (think fitted metal pipes sliding into each other and locking in place with large pins), everything from the hand grips to the rubber pieces that touch the floor are well-made, and having worn out my share of equipment, the Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand seems to be much more durable than most pieces of home gym equipment. For the price, I would recommend the Ultimate Body Press Dip Stand without reservation. I'm extremely happy with the purchase - especially at the price - and given my personal preference, I imagine that I will use it much more frequently than the average purchaser, so I'm probably more critical than most. I'm giving it five stars as its only real competition would be a high-end dip station where all the joints have been welded into a single unit. For a piece of home gym equipment that is capable of being disassembled for shipping or storage, I honestly can't imagine how you would improve upon this item. It's as stable, functional, and durable as you can get without welding all of the joints together. ... show more

  • Not impressed for the price or quality of construction.
First let me say that $100.00 is not a lot of money, however for such a simple device (meaning it costs dirt to manufacture) I expected more. THE GOOD: EXTREMELY SIMPLE TO PUT TOGETHER! If you have any problems building this item, you really shouldn't buy your own equipment. Not trying to insult anyone, but it takes only a modicum of spatial reasoning and color coordination. Blue goes with blue, pink to pink, etc...Yes, there are directions, too. The thickness of the rails means it will hold heavy weight. I'm guessing well above the 300lb mark stated in the advert. I'm 260 and I feel no fear in a tube collapsing even if I have extra weight hanging from a belt while doing dips. The black paint doesn't seem like it will chip/scratch easily unless you brush metal up against it which is kind of an obvious "don't". Easy to break down and put under a bed or in a closet. Quite literally a 5-10 second set up (This item does not fold or slide - you do have to break it down into at least 2 parts - again, not much of an issue, but some people don't like to be bothered). That's all I really have to say about the good really other than it will fulfill it's general purpose. THE BAD: Cheap cheap cheap. The cushions are cheap at the joint connecting areas and especially on the grips. The WILL fall apart with even light use. Would it have killed them to use gel or some other type of industrial foam? Probably not. They are obviously a very cheap company. God forbid they spend more than $5.00 for construction. IT'S WOBBLY!!! Yes, You can weigh 65 or 300lbs. There is no weight class where this thing will not move or shake! That is very sad. The locking pins bother me. One sided and flimsy. They could so easily move or get lost/stuck in a tube. EXERCISES: As for the exercises, dips and leg raises are fine and the shaking may actually help work your stabilization muscles. The tubes themselves are okay, but if you lay on them (as for horizontal rows, you may want something to cover the pipe; it digs into my back between sets. I bought a cheap vinyl covered cushion to lay over it(like the cushion on a bench press). The FIXES: I highly suggest buying some black duct tape and securing the connections you won't take apart too often. You really only need to break 2 joints down for storage, so I'd recommend taping those tightly and with the black duct tape, it shouldn't ruin aesthetics (if you're worried about it). Also along the duct tape route, you can buy some comfortable grips/pads and tape them down to make the apparatus more comfortable, I guarantee that these grips will disintegrate very quickly. They are garbage. OVERVIEW OF REVIEW: There is a LOT of play in each joint and a mere single tiny little locking pin that keeps them in place. If you add in all the joints there is approximately 2-3 good inches of movement overall which is very sad for (again) such a simply constructed fitness item. I equate it to buying a bicycle with slightly ovoid instead of circular rims. Sure, it'll work, but it shouldn't be this bad. I see NO quality control in this apparatus. Yes, you can make this workable and improve the quality, but you really shouldn't have to. I give it 2 STARS because it works and is usable, but it's just a $20.00 piece of equipment with a much larger price tag (by $20.00 I mean that's what customers should pay because it clearly costs only about $5.00 to make). My opinion, anyone rating this higher than 3 stars is probably getting a kickback of some sort or not taking price/construction into account. For $20-30.00 (not including shipping) this would be 5 stars because you DO get great range of motion, it is sturdy (when not shaking, but won't fall over) and it does provide a nice safe core/tricep/back workout that may lack comfort, but is effective. ... show more
