So I was on the hunt for a TRUE permanent paint pen, black & extra fine, to use on metal plant markers for my irises. I've tried several different oil based and acrylic paint markers, as well as Sharpie, but not one has lasted a whole summer. Some faded so completely that I had no idea what the name of the iris even was. But I know that there are TRUE permanent paint pens out there because I have two, one gold and one silver, both DecoColor Premium. Not even acetone will remove it! And for some reason I was under the impression that it was the "Premium" which made it permanent and for the life of me I could not find extra fine black that was "premium", so I wasted a bunch of money on other brands trying to find what I wanted, when all along just the plain 'ol DecoColor was all that I needed! I did a test on a slick plastic surface with the silver and gold, (which I discovered was all used up), as the control colors, with the black scribbled next to them. Then I proceeded to wipe all three colors with alcohol first, then acetone, and absolutely nothing happened. They totally stayed, not even slightly faded. (See pics) Woo hoo! My search is over!! I needed a paint marker for plastic static-stick-on car oil change labels (see photo - I obscured the auto parts store name in the photo). I put the labels on the windshield so I don't forget about the next oil change. Regular Sharpies worked, except heat and sunlight fade the Sharpie marks so they become unreadable before the next oil change. From my reading, I don't think acrylic paint markers would be durable and fade-proof on this plastic material and in the hot sun - so I went for this oil-based paint marker, and so far, so good. It looks like the paint is going to stay on, and, it being pigmented paint, I don't think it's going to fade between oil changes. FYI, the tip is exactly 1mm diameter. I'd prefer a little thinner tip (like 0.7mm like many acrylic markers), but this works to fit what I need to put on the labels if I'm careful to write small. You can prevent problems people complain about by following the directions on the package (I get the impression people don't read and follow directions, and then complain when things don't work): Store it in a flat position (not standing up vertically); shake well before each use; push the tip in and pump it on a horizontal surface to open the internal valve to 'prime' the tip with paint - stop when tip is wet with paint; write the needed info.; carefully wipe excess paint from tip after each use; put cap on securely to keep the tip from drying out between uses; store between 60 and 85°F. ... show more

This item is just as described; it's a paint pen with a really thin tip. The tip is hard, so it doesn't deform easily, maintaining the thin dimension throughout use. The ink is much thicker and darker than a Sharpie. Works well.

I work with stained glass. As such, pretty much everything begins with a pattern. Once you have a pattern, you glue it to the piece of glass you want to use. From there, you can either cut around the pattern, or you can trace the pattern piece on the glass. I do the latter using this fine line paint pen. Sometimes, I will lay the pattern on my light box, lay the piece of stained glass on top of the pattern, and then trace the pattern again, using this fine line paint pen. Why not just use a sharpie? Once you have cut the glass you need to grind it and the water from the grinding bit tends to wash the sharpie off. The line from the paint pen stays put! Using the extra-fine point black marker in a professional lettering project. After vigorous shaking and gently depressing the tip to get paint flowing, it worked fine and gave a nice fine line for about 15 letters. Then all future depressions of the point to get more paint flowing resulted in large globs of paint flowing out and ruining my professional work. Try as I may, I could not repeat a smooth even flow through the tip. It was either too dry to write, or with just a little depression of the tip, paint flooded out. Just Ned to know owp to use these pens. Great for stained glass work....watch YouTube videos, let dry and put cheap glue stick on dry pattern before grinding or using on a ring saw and it won't budge. Keep from rubbing off with your fingers a your grinding or cutting. Black is the best. Gold clogs up very fast, silver is in between. Watch YouTube videos. ... show more
