Style: Extra Large Sketchbox
I'm absolutely *loving* this portable easel! I like how customizable it is, from the height of the easel ... to the angle of the easel surface slant ... to the configuration of the dividers inside the box. The box itself is a terrific feature, as I can keep my reading glasses, portable clip-on light, and other necessities always close at hand. I like that the easel has a solid wooden surface, as this makes it easy for those of us who work on paper instead of canvas, or with very small or oddly-shaped canvases. I work a lot with pieces of paper larger than the easel's surface, and the adjustable top and bottom ledge easily hold a sketch board securely in place. I sometimes apply a fair amount of force to my work (for example, when I'm rubbing vigorously to blend oil pastel colors), and I've found that the screws maintain the easel's position remarkably well! I've not yet had the easel give way beneath my abuse. It requires a firm hand when setting the screws, but not so much that it's difficult to unscrew them when I'm ready to close up the easel to put it away. The handle feels a bit flimsy; it hasn't broken or anything, but I've only been using the easel for a month or so, and I don't tend to carry it by the handle very often. The clasps, on the other hand, seem sturdy. The palette that comes with the easel is made of fairly thin plywood, and I actually find that it gets in my way a lot more than it helps. In order to put the palette inside the box, it has to sit *on top* of the screws that allow you to set and anchor the angle of the easel, and so you have to remove the palette from the box every time you set up or close the easel, whether you need the palette or not. I ended up just removing the palette entirely, since the box has plenty of room to store some disposable palette paper (such as the Royal & Langnickel you can find here on Amazon) instead. Yes, okay, disposable paper is more wasteful, but I find it a lot more convenient, since I can then just set up the easel without mucking about inside the box every single time, since I often work with media that don't require a palette. If you're usually working in oils or acrylics, your mileage would most likely vary a lot from mine. I use this easel for most of my artwork now, even if I'm just coloring in a coloring book to relax! The only kinds of work I don't do on the easel now are really wet techniques, like some watercolors—stuff that will drip if it doesn't lie flat. Other than those, though, I use my easel for everything! I originally made this purchase because bending over the table when I was working had led to a pinched nerve in my neck, which in turn led to a lot of pain ... and physical therapists who told me that I needed to find a different way to work or give up art entirely! Thanks to this easel, I can now work with healthy posture and no longer get neck pain, back pain, or headaches from sitting hunched over my work. It isn't a *literal* life saver, but sometimes it feels like it, since it has allowed me to continue art without hurting myself. Yep. I love this easel.

The media could not be loaded. Got this as a present for Christmas and was very surprised how spacious the inside was. It can hold a great deal of equipment inside and has sturdy hinge points to hold up the board for painting

I purchased this as a birthday gift for my mother, as she's always wanted to paint but had never gotten the chance due to, well, being a mom. The quality is amazing, the wood is very sturdy. Her only complaint is that it doesn't stand up on its own, BUT there are two little divet/bracket looking things near the bottom of the box when open that you can tighten to make it stand. The only reason this is getting 4 stars is just because of that, really. Otherwise, this is a very sturdy and good product.

I love this. I do alot of crafts and this is perfect to sit on the couch and adjust the level to make easier to do what I love. Nice size, nice size storage compartment for everything I am working on. Also nice way to put what you are working all together in one place out of the way.

I've been looking for something for my desktop to work on painting. When I opened the box I thought meh. When I opened the easel, I thought ok. But I was pleasantly surprise by a free gift inside. They included a large plastic paint palette. How awesome! Then I started to use it and store my supplies in it. Fantastic. I have over 50 different brushes, every single one fits. I have over 100 pencils, pens, markers, sharpies, etc. They fit too. I have several protractors, compasses, and straight edges. Those fit. I have over 60 tubes of watercolor and gouache. Those fit. And I still have and empty slot in the storage. The easel is adjustable and you lock it into place with wingnuts. It fits a 24"x30" hardboard very solidly, and it locks into place securely. I have absolutely no complaint. Good product and competitive price!

Came in perfect condition. Looks beautiful and works like a charm :) At first I didnt know how to keep the easel standing up but then I figured out the screws in the inside. They're a little hard to tighten but I'm sure over time that'll just get easier. The cubby part is nicely made. Its heavy...and just overall nicely put together :) I love that it came with a little paint palette. It was a lovely surprise as I didnt know it came with one.
