  • Powerful motor
I use a router frequently while woodworking especially for profiling board edges. This router when compared to my "old" hand held stood up to the test as a 1:1 equal. The router I received did not have any wrenches to install/remove the router bits from the chuck. It was a pleasant surprise that the router was provided with a basic set of bits (I missed this when ordering) that basically covered the majority of most DIY needs. Unfortunately, the router does not come with a case for storage. The overall rating of "4" relates to performance for which there were no issues. ... show more

  • Compact but powerful
This is a nice compact palm router with a rack-and-pinion adjustment for the depth of cut.. It has a good feel to it making it comfortable to use. It has plenty of power and the soft start is a nice feature. The dust collection accessory works quite well on it; however the rest of the accessories are not quite the same quality as the router itself. Buy it for the router and not the accessories and use it with templates and you'll be happy with it. ... show more

  • Great starter router, lightweight, tons of attachments
I like how light and zippy this is. It's a good value for a beginner, which I am. The downsides are mainly the fact it has no handles, and can't be easily mounted to a router table. That is why it's a beginner router. It feels good in the hand and it's easy to maneuver which is a plus. It doesn't scare me that it will run away on me. ... show more

  • No handles or knobs!
PROS: Compact powerful design, decent adjustments and dual sized chuck (14" and 3/8" adapters) , long enough cord, thin but functional wrenches, comes with carry case mounted assorted bits and a few single ones, good for small jobs and travel. CONS: Doesn't fit standard router tables, manual shows holding knobs, but, there are no knobs or handles included nor apparently a place to mount them, there is no carry case for the tool, (just the bits) the accessories included mount with only 1 thumb screw instead of two, and the slot/pin taking the second screws place is loose and wobbly. Overall good value for smaller tasks. ... show more

  • Heavier than expected
This is pretty nice having a 1.25 HP trim Router with Variable speed. My 2.5 HP Bosch has the variable speed dial as well but it is mounted in my router table and is a pain to remove. I have another Palm Router that is made by Ryobi it's battery powered and has a fixed speed so I don't use it that often. I am kind of impressed with the quality of this Kit. It included More than a dozen common bits, a couple of Guides all the wrenches needed as well as some sandpaper? It's pretty powerful and easy to hold onto. I think I will be adding a larger base plate just to make it a little more stable. I do like cordless tools but nothing beats having the power to route some nice thick oak without bogging down. ... show more

  • Good router for the road
This is a nice, compact, powerful router. It's quite versatile, being variable speed and able to use both size bits. It comes with a fair number of extras, and the bits are decent. Overall this is a great starter router, or a good handy travel router to have in the truck for those just-in-case times. Price is decent for what you get. ... show more

  • I struggled to fit the bits into the collet
I gave this one star in my first review, since I was not able to insert the router bits into the collet. The seller reached out to me and advised me to watch the third video where I learned the collet can be removed using a needle nose pliers. I finally was able to remove the collet, but it took three different needle nose pliers to find one that works. I think the collet was inserted too far, and that is why I had the problem described below in my original review. The bits fit after removing the collet, but there still seems to be a problem with this collet design. I struggled to remove the Roman ogee bit after doing some test routing on a softwood. The bit was very difficult to remove, and I finally had to pry it out of the collet using the wrench. Perhaps I'll have better luck after having more experience with it. If so, I'll update the review again. The test routing on the softwood went well. I could route the whole profile in one pass -- I did not need to make multiple passes and increase the depth with each pass. The results were very smooth. Original Review follows: I might be doing something wrong, since no other reviewers mentioned this problem. I was not able to fit the supplied bits into the collet -- even after taking the nut completely off. I measured the internal diameter of the collet, and it was only about 5/32" to 6/32" and the bits are 8/32" (1/4"). I wonder if I was shipped a router destined for France, since their bit size is about 6/32". I hope the vendor reaches out to me, and I will revise this review if we can resolve the situation. I have some observations about this router in spite of not being able to use it. 1. The variable speed and slow start are great features. The slow start makes it easier to control the router when you turn it on. 2. The switch is recessed, so it cannot accidentally start the router if you lay it down on the bench. This was a problem reviewers noted on some other routers sold on Amazon. A non-recessed switch is a safety hazard. 3. The instructions are good on safety suggestions, but poor on use and where to order the accessories shown in the manual. However, YouTube has some great videos on using routers, and I'd recommend looking at several of them if you have no experience with routers. Here are some features missing from this router that are found on more expensive routers. 1. The edge guides shown in the photo do not attach firmly. Based on a diagram in the manual, it looks like another part is needed to firmly attach the edge guide (part 2 -- "Guide Plate Support"). If you need a router with an edge guide, I would look at other models unless you find a way to order that part. With my full size router, I often use the edge guide, so this would be a deal breaker for me if this was my first router. 2. A longer cord -- this one is about six feet, and more expensive routers likely have an eight foot or longer cord. 3. LED lights lighting up the work. Some routers have the lights on if the router is plugged in. This is a great safety feature warning you the router is plugged in if you are about to change the bits. 4. A micro-adjustment system in addition to the course adjustment system. 5. A button to press on the router base to hold the shaft, so only one wrench is needed to change a bit. 6. More expensive routers come with a plastic case, this came in a cardboard box. ... show more

  • Excellent Hand Held Wood Router and Palm Laminate Trimmer
My dad used to build custom cabinets many many years ago and would use a device smaller than this, but very similar for trimming the laminated edges. This is heavier duty than that one, and is a step down from the full big time workhorse routers that would be used day in and day out at a full time wood shop, but you can still get the job done with this one quite well. The variable speeds are really nice, and having all the tools and accessories to start out with, is a huge plus. A weekend woodworker doesn't necessarily know all the things he might need when it comes to a hand router tool. So this kit helps out with that and gives a good start to most of the things you would use when starting out. There are some good videos showing what you can do with a router, and I would recommend watching some of those if you have never used one before. Overall, I'm impressed with the build quality of this router, and it is heavier than I would have thought it would be. It feels very good in the hands though. I like it. ... show more
