Waited 2 years to purchase a tree like this. I got the 6 foot since 7.5 would have been too much. I've been a fan of Twinkly ever since I seen a video of tree changing colors. I'm very satisfied. My husband on the other hand isn't since I spent that much in one go.

The tree itself is of medium quality. I have an artificial tree I bought years ago that is much higher quality, much more realistic. If you're buying this for the tree, I would pass. The tree was exceedingly easy to assemble. I'm guessing that all of the lights are controlled with radio frequency signals, so the lights simply need power. The "trunk" of the tree carries power, and this connection is made simply by stacking the three sections of the tree together, there are no cables you need to plug in. Very nice. Assembling the tree consists of stacking the three sections on top of each other and plugging in the controller, nothing more. The connection to my home Wi-Fi went very smoothly. I ran into problems trying to map the lights. There are two choices, "3D Fast", and "3D". I searched everywhere I couldn't find an explanation of the difference. After some testing, I discovered that 3D Fast requires only a single picture, and the mapping is very fast. When you use 3D Fast, the lights on the side where the picture was taken are nicely in sync, the lights on the opposite side of the tree are roughly in sync, but not nearly as impressive. If you don't care about seeing the back of the tree, I would use 3D Fast. 3D mapping requires that you take multiple pictures, and the tree guides you. You keep taking different pictures until all of the lights turn green. 6 or 8 pictures should be enough. The problem I ran into, when I submitted the pictures to be processed into a map, these pictures are sent to a server which is currently highly overloaded. After 2 to 15 minutes of waiting, I kept getting an error message: "3D Reconstruction failed" "Http code: 400". I got this 12 times in a row. The HTTP code tipped me off to a server problem. I sent an email off to support at twinkly. A few hours later I received a response confirming that it was an overloaded server. I waited until midnight to try it again and the mapping worked flawlessly. The app worked very well, there are currently 23 different effects, plus you can custom make your own. You can then put these in a playlist. Plus you can turn the tree on and off. Other than the mapping, everything worked really well. My friends have told me how cool the tree is. The tree by itself is highly adorned with the LEDs, I'm not adding any decorations to it. I've marked the sections so if I take it apart to move it or to store it, the marks will help me put the 3 sections back together with the same alignment so I don't have to do the mapping over again. Once Twinkly updates the server this shouldn't be a problem. The app tells you not to do the mapping if there are any reflections in view of the camera. I'm not sure this is needed, but you might want to avoid having a flat panel TV in view of the phone's camera as that might reflect the tree. ... show more

Having purchased stand-alone lights from twinkly previously, I had prepared myself for the nightmare that is trying to attach their lights to a mesh network. Pulled it out of the box in October to make sure it worked. It looks great and is soooo much easier to assemble than our old I-twinkle tree. The connectors are in the trunk so as they slide into place they automatically connect. LOVE IT! But, now my sons don't want to take it down. Hmmmm

    • Amazing lights you won’t find anywhere else.

This tree was shipped to me in under a week. When it arrive my wife insisted that I set it up immediately. The tree is super simple to put together as there are no plugs you just set the pueces on one another. When I first put it together the middle section would not light up. I took it apart and reseated the middle section and still nothing. I put the top section on and it lit up so knew it had voltage going through the connections. I took it apart once more and all the sudden it lit up. I didn’t trust it so I did this 10 more times and it worked every time. We decided to continue using it and finish setting it up. Next my wife started fluffing the tree while I read the instructions and downloaded the app. The tree looks very nice and was super easy to fluff and fill in all the open spaces. Once I finished downloading the app I started linking the tree to my wifi. It was supe easy and appeared to link no problem but it would not show up on the app. I looked on the internet for help and found a quick video and was told after linking the tree to shut down the app and reopen it. Sure enough there was my tree. The lights are amazing and my family loves it. I downloaded 15 additional light schemes and we would spend time several nights a week voting on our favorites. The nights we didn’t have time to spend, I was still asked to change the scheme to something new. Our tree was different every day. The firmware upgrade it sent to the app was a little finicky but worked the third time I tried to install it. Not sure why it was having issues but I just kept trying every couple days until it worked. Not sure what the update was for as I didn’t notice any changes to the tree. Overall the tree is great. I am still a little nervous about my middle section but I haven’t seen any reviews addressing this so I think it was just my tree. The firmware was a little iffy to upgrade but not a deal breaker. The look of the tree and the lights are amazing. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a step up in their Christmas tree game. ... show more
