Not real wood. Very flimsy. Not worth the money. I wouldn't put anything heavy on this for fear it would collapse. Like a gremlin, I wouldn't get it wet! Feels like card board.

Looks great. Easy to assemble. I did it alone in about a hour. Shelves are deep and hold a good deal. It’s also very stable; no wobble. Worth the money.

    • Lightweight, lots of assembly, but good looking!
When we took the pieces out of the box I was a little concerned. This is not the usual design where the two vertical sides are all one piece. There are a million pieces, and the self goes together by putting four posts on each shelf and putting the next shelf on to of those, repeat. On top of the the pieces were all *light*. They appear to be real wood, but they are really light. So I was anxious this was going to be flimsy and only hold light things. Once assembled, though it was pretty sturdy. I would believe the 50lbs/shelf rating. Bolted together properly (not hard) the pieces work together to make a decent book shelf. I would be worried if you were going to move it frequently or bump into it often. Probably not a great shelf if you're going to have cats jumping on it. But otherwise it looked good and felt sturdy. This bookshelf is so strong and sturdy and heavy! Also very easy to follow directions and put together. Goes great with just about any decor! We actually only put 5 tiers together because of how tall it is.

    • Chemical scent is a deal breaker

Once the book shelf is put together, it's really lovely! Looks great and fits great. The downsides have been pretty bad, unfortunately: horrific scent and assembly was awful. Putting it together, it was like the inserts never fully fit and so putting each new shelf on requires a lot of force and definitely took two people. Right now, we are dealing with horrific off gassing of whatever chemicals are on the book shelf that are so strong they gave us intense headaches after assembly. I've had the book shelf in my office with the door closed, window open, fans on, air purifier, and activated charcoal for five days and the smell is still there. I'm not sure if a refund is even possible since it's fully put together. I'm going to give it another week to see if the scent dissipates at all before looking into further options. ... show more

    • My jaw has dropped.
Absolute pain in the behind to assemble. Took about an hour to set up, and in that hour I questioned how the manufacturer thought some of those pieces would fit like they were intended to. By the end of the assembly, I was talking smack to the manufacturer like they were in the room with me. Once I was done with my little fuss, and I had the bookshelf put together, I took a step back in awe. After all of the hassle, I believed I was looking at a pot of gold. It was a masterpiece. I'd rather take a stare at this bookshelf than stare at my wife. And yes, my wife is jaw-dropping. I threw all of my cd's onto the shelf, threw some plants onto it and boom. Huge bang for my buck, no, your buck. I don't have a picture of my setup because I'm at work currently. But just know that it is genuinely one of my favorite pieces of furniture in my apartment.
