Watch for missing holes or out of position holes drilled by the manufacturer. We spent an hour laying out and drilling the proper locations for the cam pin and dowel holes. We had to insert a cotton swab with the tip rubbed in permanent marker, then we pushed that through the cam hole, on an angle, while the unit was assembled to gain a proper location for drilling. Once that was done, we then used a straight edge from one marked location to the other and measured 2-1/2 inches inside the marked holes to place a mark for the wooden dowels. See photo above. We then measured with a caliper the correct diameter of the holes to be drilled. We were also very careful as not to drill all the way through the material. We used the caliper to measure the depth of these holes and carefully drilled to that depth. After the layout was finished, we drilled the holes, screwed in the cam pins, inserted the dowels. We then assembled this panel onto the working assembly that was laying flat on the floor and the panel dropped right into place. As if the holes were not missing in the first place. My Tool & Die career as a machinist surely helped out with this process. In retrospect, the easiest way to guarantee the customer that their unit will assemble properly and that no additional drilling would be necessary - is an inspection process. We are wondering how this side panel got packed into the shipping container without anyone noticing that these holes were missing. Some other noteworthy items for potential customers and the manufacturer: 1) A small lead or chamfer on the cam pin would help out tremendously when screwing them in. One has to be very careful not to allow the screw to "wiggle around" as this tends to chip away the material around the hole. Remember this is particle board and is "NOT" high density particle board. The later would be too costly to ship as the weight of that material is higher than what is used here. So, it can chip when assembling the cam pins. A small lead on this pin would help it stay in position while turning. These pins from the factory are nearly flat on the ends. 2) A couple of the cam holes were out of position (too far from the edge, distance wise) or offset to the left or right of their true position for the cam pin to make 100% contact with the slot in the cam itself. We could only get a partial turn on those 1/4 turn cams. Yes 1/16 of an inch does make a difference. 3) Some of the design diagrams are not clear enough and/or do not show properly where items should be placed for assembly. Some of the "extension lines" that lead from the items to be assembled to the assembly itself, in the diagrams, are not placed in the view correctly. This could lead to confusion on the customer's part. 4) If you are purchasing a unit that has hinges for solid or glass doors, do not wait until the last step as shown in the instructions to fasten them to the side panels. See photo seven. Four hinges with four screws each. Trying to hold the door, place it into position while holding the portable drill motor or screwdriver is nearly impossible while in a standing position. We did this first before the side panels were assembled, laying down on the floor. Using this method we did not have to have someone standing beside the unit to keep it from tipping over from the amount of force needed to start the screw into the material. This way of assembly was 100% easier, took a lot less time - and the only thing I had to hold was the drill motor. 5) We read the reviews prior to purchasing these units. Some of the customers were reporting that the doors did not line up after installation. Something to remember here - the hinges are adjustable. Again, see photo seven. The two screws marked in the photo are for these adjustments. The back screw "locking" is for locking the adjustment in place. The forward screw "tilt" is for tilting the door in its opening. With the back screw loose, the hinge will move back and forward as it slides in its track. The tilting screw is for lining up the door so that the gaps around the door are even all around and provide proper spacing in the opening. The doors actually lined up almost perfectly right from the get-go using the assembly stated above. 6) Last issue was the use of aluminum screws for the sliding racks for the pull-out drawers. These screws whether installing them using a hand fillips screwdriver or a drill motor - will or could strip the head of the screw when installing. We did not have this problem with the hinge screws, they were steel. If we purchase another unit in the future, we will throw out these aluminum screws and replace them with steel screws. Other than that, we gave them a four-star rating - none of the material was damaged during shipment as the box packing was extreme enough to prevent damage from handling. Care must have been taken in the plant while packing as there were no scratched surfaces on any of the panels. Assembly is easy enough if you keep an open mind and use common sense. Each of the three parts took me about 1.5 hours to build by myself. They are very sturdy. Took a few tries to get the doors to hang on evenly, but that’s to be expected. I wish the shelves were adjustable but then they wouldn’t be as strong.
