  • Preordered with high hopes, but this headset doesn't live up to its hype
Platform For Display: Xbox One Color: Black/Green
UPDATE: So, after three years, I feel the need to come back and update this review. After a few months and a few firmware updates, I opted to try these again. And, for the record, they got the kinks worked out. This is a fantastic headset that does exactly what I hoped it would - gave me a headset to use without cords. One that worked while gaming with a controller, a fightstick or any other gadget I plugged into the console ... or even without a controller while just party chatting with friends. I probably should knock it down by a star because after a couple years of use my headset broke last year after countless hours atop my giant noggin. But I have been very happy with it. So much so I actually replaced it with the same model and am still using this same model today with the Series X console. No complaints. ORIGINAL REVIEW: After I was really excited to get this headset as I've been a big fan of Turtle Beach's headsets for more than 9 years (I loved my X3 back in 2008) and I've been looking forward to finally having a completely wireless headset I can use with some of my non-headset friendly controllers (i.e. fightsticks). I gotta say, though, the form factor is nice and the fit is comfy. And, when the headset does work, the sound is fairly solid, with footsteps and gunshots swirling around you during gameplay. But the wireless tech, whether it's Microsoft's problem or Turtle Beach's problem, is not up to snuff. My couch is approximately 5 feet from the TV and the headset constantly crackles and cuts out, making the soundtrack choppy and distorted like a dub-step filled horror movie. The headset just doesn't maintain a solid connection to keep the sound clean. And that's enough for me to call this a failed venture. In addition, there is an audible noise that rings (or fizzes - half hissing, half buzz) in my ears that often fills silent moments. So, while the features on the headset are all there - separate mic and headset volumes, different modes and Xbox Surround sound - the fact it doesn't cleanly offer untainted audio (I'm assuming it's interference in the connection to the console), means this one will have to be sent back. And that makes me super sad. I'm hoping they can figure out the connection issues and patch this product and improve it in inevitable subsequent releases. ... show more

  • Great affordable wireless Gaming Headset
Platform For Display: Xbox One Color: Black/Green
I wanted to leave a review about these because they are all so mixed and do not really give you a good idea of the performance of the accessory. A little background... I'm an old school gamer that just upgraded to the present day. My last purchased system was a PS3 2nd iteration and I hated it because the PSN sucked. That experience really turned me off of Online Gaming and honestly video games in general. I've been an owner of many great systems including: Atari, NES, SNES, Gamecube, Wii, PS1, PS2, PS3. I had never really played Xbox with anyone for longer than one sitting and when I did I couldn't adapt to the controller. Fast forward to present day and I now own an Xbox One S. Let me tell you why I wanted that version and not the Xbox One X. I bought the PS3 right when it was released and after they "fixed" the overheating issues. This model had less hookups than the original release version, but was mostly the same. That system was nothing but problems. So why not get a PS4 or PS4 Pro. Honestly, I love the new games and the classics. The versatility of the Xbox One S drew me because you can not only play older version games, but can also use all Xbox accessories. I just bought a low end 4k UHD TV and I've really been able to appreciate the better graphics. I also have a surround sound so it was quite an upgrade. When I was looking for new headphones I wanted something that fit well, sounded great, and performed. These headphones do all of that. Xbox Wireless Technology worked perfect. Easy setup. I upgraded the Firmware first before I ever hooked it up. Pairing was a snap. I recommend paying the extra for Dolby Atmos because it sounds great. I watched the review saying that the sound was too low and I disagree, it's perfect. There are 4 presets which all sound good for different needs. The Superhuman Hearing is more treble and mid range for sure (I know this because I'm a guitarist as well), but has less bass response. I prefer the 2nd mode for general gaming, but would probably use the Superhuman Hearing for FPS games. They stay connected and charged for a long time. My system has the modem about 15 feet away from the system with a wireless connection. I've read that many people had connectivity issues if the modem was too close. They are very versatile and I think they fit my head fine. The fold flat feature is nice too. I was looking for a nice headphone at an affordable price and I think these were just what I wanted. They are basically the better version of the Turtle Beach XO Four wired headphones. Wound definitely recommend these. Just a final note, you do need to reduce the volume of the TV or Surround system to game silently and only hear it in the headphones. I did not know this when I first used them so I thought I'd put it out there if this is your first time using them like it was for me. I hope you can find this review helpful in making a decision. ... show more
