  • Got the job done
Got the job done. Using power auger to drill post holes and have to remove auger at intervals, remove loose soil, break rocks and remove and go again.

  • The Best Garden Tool for Removing Roots!
This is my first Amazon review, and I felt compelled to write this because I love this item so much! Gardening is my hobby, and when I was younger I worked for a landscaping company, so I have a pretty good amount of experience in the yard.... including using various garden tools. This tool is so simple and yet so effective. It is basically a long piece of solid metal. I just moved into a new residence, and am in the process of relandscaping my entire yard. That includes removing every existing plant and tree so I can start over. For the first several weeks of the removal process I used a pick, shovel, and other common garden tools. I then bought this tool and wished I had done so from the beginning. This tool goes through dirt easier than anything else (I hesitate to say like butter). It also makes short work of large roots, especially those that are underneath the plant/tree that are difficult to reach with other tools. Lastly, this tool will never break. It is solid! And the weight gives you a good work out. I am taking deep breaths after just a couple of minutes of swinging this tool, but it is so worth it! Probably one of the top 2 or 3 best garden tools I have ever used. ... show more

  • Spartans, Prepare for Glory!!!
I felt like a Spartan! "Spartans! Prepare For Glory!!!" First thing I wanted to do was strip to my skivies, put on a red cape, grab my garbage can, put a flower pot on my head, and run out the door screaming "Come and Get Us!" Ok, that's not quite the review, but this thing does a fantastic job. Stayed sharp after pounding out two 2ft diameter stumps, a 6-10" root, and to get under a couple of trees and roots to move them around to better spots. Saved may shrubs for the Knights of Kneigh! However, I can only give it 5. It is strong, but I'm worried about its flex. I was worried about it breaking. Also, as a firefighter, we have 6 ft steel roof hooks that don't bend like this, they pry and destroy the work as expected. ... show more

  • It bends
I tried to dig out a broken post pole and it bends. I don't know what kind of material they use, because it's heavy and weak.

  • The best solution for hard rocky soil short of a jackhammer!
We have hard, rocky clay soil in our yard. So hard that digging a hole big enough for a 2 gallon rosebush using a shovel and pick axe is an hour long commitment. We really hesitated to buy any plant that came in a pot larger than 1 gallon. I ended up ordering one of these after a neighbor loaned us his. (They have since moved.) I didn't see how it could work when I first looked at it. It's heavy, 16 pounds or so, but that soil with the rocks scattered through it is pretty darn hard. But it turns out to be the one thing that really breaks through. I guess it's because all of that weight is focused on the small area at the end of the tool when holding it upright. So it's not overly heavy or difficult to use although if you had a lot of holes to dig you probably could skip going to the gym that day! Two thumbs up for a simple product that simply works. I posted a couple pictures so you can get a better look. ... show more

  • Perfect Solution
While digging post holes with my standard manual post hole digger, I hit solid soil & roots, and could not dig any deeper. After receiving my Digging Bar I returned to the project and put the bar to the test. The chiseled end made fast work of the roots & compact soil. The heavy weight and long reach of the bar easily broke up the soil for removal with my post hole digger. The trim work on the hole was a breeze and I was able to reach a 3 1/2' depth without having to work bent over. I haven't used the rounded tamp end yet, but know it will do the job a lot better than my old 2x4. It's smaller size will get into areas I couldn't get to previously and the weight of the bar will compact the soil for a firm fit of my 6x8" post. A perfect solution to post hole frustration. ... show more

  • this bar powered through all of it easily. The largest root I encountered was probably 1
This exceeded my expectations. I dug some holes for fence posts and whenever I ran into packed clay or tree roots, this bar powered through all of it easily. The largest root I encountered was probably 1.5 inches thick, but after 1-3 jabs, it was cut and out of the way, so it seems like larger roots wouldn't have been a problem either. The top end of this is like a giant nail head which you can use to pack in dirt and gravel, which is important when setting posts. This tool saved me a lot of time and effort and I highly recommend it. A shovel and post digger are great but can't quickly get through packed clay and dirt and roots like this can. ... show more
