  • Works as advertised: keeps the rain off you, doesn't turn inside out
Color: Dark Navy
Somehow, I lived my entire adult life up to very recently without owning an umbrella. That changed when I moved to Bogotá, Colombia. Compared to what you might imagine about Colombia, this mountain city is cold and the only thing tropical is the rain. It rains just about every day, although usually only for an hour or so. The reason for that weather change is the wind coming off the mountains that the city butts up against. My first ever umbrella was hastily purchased in the street and needless to say, it was not the most sturdy piece of equipment. It seemed to have a confused identity, thinking it was some kind of reversable jacket or something. It took every gust of wind as an opportunity to show off its perceived abilities, however its frame was not quite up to these acrobatic feats. As my first umbrella was slowly dying, having flipped inside out more times than a contortionist at Cirque du Soleil, I decided it was time to order a replacement. This, my second ever umbrella has been a much drier experience. It feels solid in hand and the wooden handle looks great. The wood is a stained a little darker than in the pictures, but I don't mind. I'm not sure what kind of three-fingered being the handle was designed for (I guess a British one), I would have preferred a plain round handle, but it's still comfortable enough to hold. I've owned this umbrella for about three months now, I wanted to wait before writing a review. It holds out in both light & heavy rain & whenever I've felt that familiar tug from a gust of wind, it's never flipped inside out. It doesn't have a huge diameter, so any sideways rain might still be a problem & it's probably not a two-person umbrella unless you really want to cuddle. That said, it's very portable & easily fits in my backpack, along with everything else. When holding the umbrella at an angle, I sometimes get a few drips coming through due to the nature of the double canopy, however that definitely beats having it turned inside out. The button to launch the umbrella open is kinda fun, I could maybe distract a potential robber for a couple of seconds, giving me an opportunity to run if I had to. Pulling it back in is no easy task though. I can bicep curl 70 lbs for 4 sets of 10 and this is still a challenge. Definitely don't give this to kids. It's really just the last bit, locking it back in, if you try to grab the small metal part that comes in close to the handle, it can be difficult & your fingers can get pinched, however if you push from each end, it's not actually that hard. Overall, a really good umbrella. I think it's good value for money and should last a long time. ... show more

  • A great umbrella that's just a bit bigger than the usual compact, but still easily portable
Color: Black with Real Wood Handle
Really nice quality. The auto-close/open is solid built and a great feature. The wood isn't as dense as I thought it would be, but it's still smooth and nice to the touch. The handle is fantastic to hold. I'm a big guy with large hands and hate the compact umbrellas with the handle smaller than the width of my palm because it makes holding on to the umbrella so awkward. This umbrella does not suffer from that at all. I can get a nice grip on it without feeling like I'm awkwardly squeezing my hand too tightly and my pinky isn't dangling at the bottom with nothing to hold on to. If it'll fit my hand, it's probably going to fit just about anybody's hand. I picked this umbrella because I wanted something that could fit in my backpack, but bigger than your typical compact umbrella. I do wish the umbrella was a little wider, I feel a little rain coming in from the sides BUT ! this is because I'm wearing a full backpack all the time, so I'm taking up more space than usual. On top of that, I live in Florida and the rain this time of year is brutal. I think the umbrella is more than wide enough, it's just my particular situation is extra tough to accommodate. I almost forgot to mention that water does not stick to this thing, at all. When I go to close it, it's almost completely dry even after getting hit by these monstrous Florida downpours. The only thing I can't comment on is how it will hold up over time. My greatest concern is that the auto open/feature means moving parts, and moving parts means more potential points of failure. I've used it quite a bit this past month and it shows no signs of degrading at all, I think it will hold up for the long run. If it doesn't, this review will definitely be edited to reflect anything I discover. But even assuming it holds up for just a year down here in windy/rainy South Florida, I still think it'd be doing really great for the price. ... show more

  • Perfect compact well built umbrella
Color: Black with Real Wood Handle
I had the same umbrella but donated it when I moved internationally and instantly regretted it. I bought this when I got settled and the rain started to fall and I keep it in the car because it's compact, sleek, and well-built and the convenient button works so well for opening and closing. Closing the umbrella back into a locked position is easy if you just push it against the floor or wall, there's a sturdy spring in there which is a testament to the quality. ... show more

  • EXCELLENT!
Color: Black with Real Wood Handle
This British-made unbrella is far better than what I see in the US marketplace. It is exremely well made, with an nicely shaped curved wooden grip that is easy to hold on to. Opened, it is a ample size that is not too big nor too small, jus right (it's not one of those mini travel umbrella nor is ait a huge “golf” type - it is in the middle , big enough to protect you , but small enough to handle in the wind. Unlike many other umbrella it folds back into place very well, and it has a very useful button snap closure to hold it togeether. instead of the velcro closure that eventually fails. PLus a zippered case. It’s well worth the higher price because it will last longer. It easuly opens automatically at the push of a button, but you need to close it manually. Excellent. ... show more

  • This is a quality product.
Color: Dark Navy
I ordered and returned 3 different umbrellas based on description and reviews. All showed signs of poor construction and no quality control. This one is different and is definitely a keeper. The outer cover has a zipper that doesn't stick and is easy to use. This is one area is where many manufacturers cut corners. The strap that keeps the umbrella closed is large and sturdy and works well. The entire mechanism including the spines are beefy and not likely to collapse or break in a strong wind. I just returned from a vacation in a rainy place. Every trash can we came across had at least one umbrella. Clearly there are many cheap umbrellas out there that will fail when you need them most. I'm glad I was persistent and was able to find at least one umbrella that is made to stand up to the elements and keep me dry. ... show more
