Well it is a good kit for $ 128.00 but if your planning to stain the guitar than this kit is not for you. First of all body and neck are sealed with some kind of sealer, I contacted the seller about it and he told me that was for protection. Well I bought several different kits without sealer on it and never needed a protection sealer on it. I wish Tostar would STOP sealing thier kits and let it up to the buyer to do with he wants to do its ok if you want to paint it but it you want to stain the kit STAY AWAY FROM BUYING THIS KIT! or grt ready for hours and hours of sanding that should not be needed if there was no sealer on it, other than that it is a real nice kit. So TOSTAR leave it up to the buyer and stop sealing your kits there is no need for it. ... show more

This lit is basically plug and play. You can choose to put some sort of finish on the body pr keep it plain. The stings and pickups are not top grade but they are easily upgraded. The body comes pre routered out for ease of running wires. I chose not to use the body that the kit came with. Instead, i used it as a model to .ake my own body out of some wood I had drying for 40 years. Anyways, this os a great kit to share with the kids. ... show more

First, the good points - the body and neck are solid. The neck is straight, with no adjustment needed. It went. Together easily, and the fact that there were plastic clips to connect the wires so no soldering was needed is a big plus and made me wonder why this isn't just a standard thing. The bridge and tailpiece seem to be good qualityand I was really surprised that. I didn't need to adjust the intonation. Almost everything worked. Now the bad points- the part that didn't really work is the tuning machines, and the strings would go way out of tune (fortunately, those are easy to replace). The fingerboard was dry and scratchy and needed a lot of lemon oil. There is some fret buzz, but I'm hoping that will stop when I replace the bridge, but I may need to get the frets replaced. As for the electronics, well, they work but are really poor quality. The pickups don't sound good and the pots are really cheap but they work. Overall, I'd say it might be a good guitar for someone who is just starting to learn to play and enjoys putting things like this together. What worked out for me is that for a long time I've wanted to basically build a guitar from the ground up, starting with the body and adding the components individually, and this is giving me the opportunity to do this because, to be honest, nothing but the body and neck were worth keeping. I've already replaced the tuning machines, pots, the switch and and I have a neck pickup picked out, I just need to decide what to get for the bridge pickup. So for me at least, it wasn't a total loss. I wasn't expecting something that I'd perform with or even play regularly and I half expected that I'd have to replace everything anyway. The most important part is that the body and neck are good and I can take it from there ... show more

Very nice wood, but it is sealed and will need to be sanded down to apply a finish. The top appears to not be a veneer so should sand well.
