For the record, I'm an experienced guitarist and have owner a wide variety of high-end, mid-level, and "budget" guitars over the years. And I but can't seem to put this guitar down - it is really fun to play and does not limit my ability. I bought this Tostar HSS 112 strat copy as a modding platform - I was going to swap in some expensive PRS pickups that I had laying around. But the pickups in the Tostar sound so good, that I decided to keep them in. I don't particularly like single coil pickups but these have a really quacky, retro, and sweet sound that is unique - not high end but strangely satisfying. The humbucker sounds great too in a similar way. All 5 positions give a different cool sound and it only weighs 5.5 pounds! I even got a 15% discount on the day I actually bought one. I do not agree with "Jacob L" who left a 2 star review. He's being way too picky for a guitar in the $100 price range. The sharp fret ends and other imperfections are very easy things to fix or adjust. Compared to other budget guitars, the sound is very pleasing and I like it much better than the Squier Debut (which I returned). Crazy how some of these cheap import guitars can sound so good. It's also a GREAT modding platform because it's so lightweight. The neck was straight and very comfortable to play. The action and intonation were very close to perfect and easy to adjust. I don't think you can go wrong with this guitar unless you get a lemon - and if so you can always return it.

I have been wanting to learn how to play and so far, I am having a fun time with this guitar. The tone sounds very pleasing and the quality is top notch. It is very beginner friendly as I had no trouble at all getting everything tuned.

This was picked up for my pre-teen daughter who wanted to learn guitar. $100 guitars are the best for beginners. Kids are clumsy and things will get bumped. First thing she did was draw on it and sticker it up to make it her's. This guitar is your standard Stratocaster appearance with the rounded edges is very comfortable to play while sitting. The composite body is very lightweight compared to wood solid bodies making it feel a lot less weighted on the neck and shoulders when playing standing with a strap. The color has a matte finish to it giving it a unique look. The action was set at max height, thankfully setting action and intonation is very easy for anyone with the included tools. Any beginner can learn from youtube how to set up a guitar and they should. Setting a guitar up properly will make playing much easier and encourage a beginner to want to learn. The tonal quality of the pickups is very versatile from bright and clean to very dark and dirty. Overall the build quality of this guitar is well above any beginners package you will find at the big box stores.

I returned this guitar b/c the bridge is at least 1/8 inch too far down on the body which makes it impossible to intonate and that the pickups were very noisy even when grounded. One would have to re-drill the body to move the bridge up or file notches in a couple saddles so that they could move up over the bridge mounting screws. Also, probably completely re-solder the electronics and add grounded shielding.

This is marketed as a “beginner’s guitar,” but don’t let that put you off—it offers much better performance than its price indicates. I was quickly impressed by its build quality and sound overall. Back in the day, I played in a cover band that helped me cover my college and graduate school expenses. My favorite guitar was a Fender Telecaster with humbucking pickups, which I played for years. I no longer own the Telecaster, so I decided to try this Tostar Stratocaster to keep my fingers in shape. The Tostar delivers! It tunes easily, feels comfortable to hold, is easy to play, and produces impressive sound. I was especially surprised by its light weight, thanks to the Eco-Composite body that reduces overall weight while maintaining durability and solidity. I haven’t yet fully explored how the material affects the tone. If I were still playing in a band, I’d improve the experience with new strings, better machine heads for tuning, and my choice of professional pickups. But none of that is necessary if you’re just getting started. This is an excellent guitar for any age and a great value. Highly recommended!
