  • Excellent iPad Bag!
Size: L/7L Color: Black
I bought the tomtoc 7L bag last month and I use it every day. It's fantastic. I wanted the smallest, simplest possible bag for my every day things. It fits my iPad (10th), Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard Folio, charger, cables, 25oz Owala bottle, and an assortment of small items. It looks and feels much smaller than a laptop backpack. I can carry it comfortably, even for an hour or two. I love it because it: - has a padded main device sleeve I can find without looking - has a second sleeve to keep my keyboard separate - holds my water bottle upright inside, where it can't fall out - has just enough pockets in just the right places - has a zipper which never snags - holds its shape even when mostly empty - sheds water when rained on - can be carried fully unzipped without falling open I used to carry my laptop backpack anytime I wanted my tablet, but I really appreciate the smaller bag. It's quick to toss on my back and set down. It tucks easily on a bench seat, car footwell, or under a coffee shop table. It's much easier to bring everywhere, so I always have everything with me. I've never thought about "can be carried unzipped" as a feature, but when moving from room to room in my house, it's really nice to just grab it without closing it and go. Since all of the heavy things are connected to the back of the bag, they're all held up normally. The things on the front have stretch or zip pockets and the front side of the pack does not drape open enough for anything to fall out. I tried the 5L size first, but settled on the 7L. The 5L fit the iPad but it needed to be aligned carefully to go into the sleeve. On the 7L, I can drop the iPad in at almost any angle. The 5L has a second sleeve for the keyboard, but the keyboard blocks the inside back zip pocket when placed in it. On the 7L, the back zip pocket is in front of the second sleeve, so it's always accessible. Finally, the 5L was a bit too narrow front-to-back to fit the iPad, keyboard, and water bottle, so the front of the bag stretched when I closed it and always looked "askew". The 7L is just big enough to fit everything and stay straight and unstretched. The 7L is even big enough to fit a 14” M1 MacBook Pro in the main sleeve if I want a full laptop. It will even fit both, with the iPad and keyboard in the second sleeve, but then I think it's a bit heavy for a one-strap carry. It does have a few tiny issues: the bag doesn't stand up by itself when set down, so I need to lean it against something. Also, the carry strap loosens itself over time, so I plan to stitch it in place at the right length. Minor problems aside, though, I am delighted I've found it and expect I'll carry it around every day for quite a long time. ... show more

  • Best minimalistic sling bag thus far!
Size: L/7L Color: Black
I'm loving it so far since I got it last week (7/24/2023). This bag is compact, roomy, and it also teaches you NOT to overpack via the "everything, including the kitchen sink" approach of trying to bring just about everything with you. The absolute LAST thing you want to do is lug around something that nearly feels like a military-standard weighted backpack during the current hellacious heatwave we're having when I'm writing this review. The exterior profile is very sleek. Can be worn up front while carrying a camera backpack on your back, though. Depending on my trips since I've had it for a week, my usual go-to carry inside this bag includes: - see-through conair travel pouch/bag for tech (contains Baseus power bank, cables, charger plug, car charger plug, earbuds with charging case, wired earbuds, small LED flashlight) - 24oz bottle to hold any drink (or collapsible umbrella depending on the weather) - pack of wipes - small hand towel - Rugged tablet (8-10 inches depending on outing) - small medicine pack/pouch for my daily meds - pen(s) and/or tablet stylus - Amazon Basics Tablet Stand (fits right next to the rugged tablet in its compartment in the bag) - hearing aid case - 1 emergency 8-piece hearing aid battery pack I also optionally carry: - Olympus TG-6 "pocket" camera and extra battery (with pluggable charger) - passport (as needed) - a folding walking/hiking cane/monopod can be attached to exterior strap Other than the folding cane/monopod - depending on size - everything else will fit inside the sling without it looking bloated. The see-through travel case I mentioned is for TSA when travelling via plane. They like the fact that they can see your electronics in one spot, and that the case is see-through. As mentioned, I use the conair see-through travel organizer - you can also find it here on Amazon. All in all; the tomtoc 14 EDC compact sling bag variant is a solid purchase so far. I will try to re-review after having used it for 6 months or more to see how it will hold up to constant daily use. ... show more

  • Smaller than expected
Size: M/5L Color: Khaki
The small 5L size bag is really small on the inside. It is definitely minimal. It can hold an iPad and just other small items like a wallet, small note pad, keys, etc. It cannot hold a standard 9”x12” paper folder. It will hold my 10.5” iPad, a 1” thick ipad size book and a 500 ml water bottle with some room left for small stuff. It will barely hold loose 8.5”x11” papers, but not in the iPad sleeve. If you want to hold more than that, move up to the larger 7L size. The strap is 3” wide at top of pack. The zipper on top has a water resistant seal. The ipad sleeve does not extend down all the way to the bottom of the bag. It stops about an inch short. The water bottle sleeve also stops about 1.5” short from bottom of bag. Both seem to be odd design choices making the usable space in this small bag even smaller. I would rather have a Velcro style adjustable band to hold a bottle of varying diameter instead of the small fixed size nylon sleeve. Quality of construction seems great. Just too small for my needs. I ended up returning this bag and getting the larger 7L size which seems much more versatile in what it can carry. ... show more
