    • Warranty?
For about the same price as this Tommars mechanics tool kit you can get a very similar kit at one of the big box home improvement stores. The tool kits at the home improvement stores come with SAE and metric tools, but do not include the combination wrenches. If you need the combination wrenches, you'd need to purchase an additional kit. The quality of the home improvement store tools may or may not be equivalent to the Tommars tools, but if you have a problem with the Tommars tools it is unclear how such a problem might be resolved. With the home improvement stores, your tools come with the lifetime warranty. I searched for information about the warranty of these tools but could find nothing specific. Amazon says the warranty is provided by the manufacturer and not Amazon. I checked the Tommars "store" on Amazon and found they offer many different tools, but there was no information about the warranty, nor was there any information about any Tommars website which might shed some light on warranty information. These days I think it's pretty important to have both SAE and metric tools for home improvement projects, but if you're planning to use this tool kit to work on an old American muscle car, metric tools would be superfluous. If you don't need metric tools, but you do need combination wrenches, and you don't care about a warranty, then this tool kit might be right for you. Without a warranty, this is not a tool kit I can recommend. Occasionally, manufacturers respond to reviews like this with additional information. Perhaps the manufacturer will clarify how warranty claims would be handled with this product. If that information becomes available to me, I will update my review. ... show more

I'm greener than a novice at fixing vehicles or engines but I'm hopeful that I can be a quick study. I have friends who are handy with vehicles and their tools are very expansive and expensive. I didn't want to sink a lot of money into a mechanic's tool set before I do a little tinkering first. This kit is perfect. It has a great selection of tools and comes with a nice plastic storage box that keeps everything in neat order. I can't speak to durability yet because I really haven't used them enough or torqued them enough to say how well they hold up compared to the big names. I can assume that they're not quite as robust but then again, they're only a fraction of the price. I'd equate these maybe to a tool set you'd by at harbor freight. ... show more

    • Nice backup/starter set
First thing I noticed upon opening the case was a pretty bad oily smell. Nothing terrible but unpleasant. Once I'd set aside the smell, I realised that some of the sockets had come loose in shipping, not a big deal just annoying as I can assume that any amount of jostling when moving the case will result in some sockets coming loose. Moving on to the tools themselves, they're fine, not great, but not bad either. I wanted this set as a backup for my car just in case I was away from my big tool kit and needed to fix something. For that purpose I haven't encountered any issues with it. I appreciate them including all the sizes between 5/32" and 1", too many sets skip less common sizes, and when you need a specific size it's really annoying to learn your tool kit company decided to skip out. ... show more
