I have a radiant kerosene heater that i wanted to get some air distribution with and this seemed like a perfect fit. It is quality made materials and is almost whisper quiet. That being said, the airflow is not significant. Barely will move cigarette smoke 6 inches in front of it. However it is made for wood burning stoves that get much hotter and probably provide enough heat to make it spin much faster. All in all I like using it and I'll probably buy a couple more. Stay warm out there. Edit 2/10/20 I took the top grate off my heater and placed the fan directly on top and it works perfectly now. Spins on high speed and moves air around my garage well. I purchased this on March 17 and received it on March 19....great shipping time! I have a propane free standing heater (stove) in my small home but we have 12 foot ceilings so the heat in the living space was always uneven. I put this little fan on top of my stove and within 15 minutes - the temperature in my living room increased by 5 degrees. So far, the heater runs less often too. It is "noiseless" and you don't even know it's spinning. Of course, I can't speak for any sort of longevity but for now, it is the perfect addition to my heating system. This fan came exactly as described and functions fine. My issue is that it really doesn't move much air. I know there are many variables including the heat of the stove and the speed of the fan BUT one thing that they can control is the shape of the fan blade. It seems like the blade is stamped from a single sheet of metal and is bent into shape. I think perhaps, MORE blades or a more aggressive profile of the blades would make a difference. I researched several thermo fans and this one was voted best value by several websites. Although there are some mixed reviews, the more intellectual reviews cemented my choice. I'm quite impressed. This fan puts off a significant air current up to maybe two feet away which is surprising for a non-electric device. That current is more than sufficient to cause a circulating effect for the warm air off of your heating device. Some space heaters that I've had use a lower powered fan than this but manage to heat small spaces well. I can fit two of these on top off my large buddy heater and that's what I intend to do! ... show more

I have 2 of these working in my sauna. While they definitely spin and do not require batteries or AC power, I am noticing they don't move much air. Must be the blade pitch. I'm wondering if a steeper pitch would add too much resistance for them to work - the mechanical system might not be able to produce enough torque. ... show more

Exactly what I was hoping for. Quiet, good quality, non electrical. To begin with our house is only 856 sq foot and poorly insulated. Our only heat source is wood So parts of the place has cold spots This little air mover has made it more comfortable in the past day The inside temperature is 4` F warmer and less cold spots. Product can't generate a strong enough of a breeze to feel even a foot away from the wood burning stove. The heat rising up off the stove is even enough to overpower the flow coming from this fan. I bought it to circulate air in the room, but it just isn't worth the money since it can't do that better than just the natural convection coming off the stove. I suspect all the fans of this design are like this since you can only get so much power from the little thermoelectric generator it has and it apparently takes a lot more power to move air like you would expect from an actual fan. This is such a good gift idea! My pellet stove stopped running so I broke out my UCO 3 candle lantern, another good gift idea! The 3 candle lantern has a flat plate for keeping coffee etc warm. So I put the fan on top of the warming plate and within 5 minutes it started spinning, from just 3 candles! I imagine you could put it by a space heater or forced hot water radiator and it will work as well. Look at the picture and note how there's a motor hard wired into the metal frame. It's like solar energy but produced via heat, technology I didn't know existed. Not sure what the motor does but it's sturdy and well build. The whole fan is just so "out there" that it's a great conversation piece. No CONS with this purchase and I was shocked to see how low priced it was. Last I remember they went for $70 plus but heck, for this price it's a sure bet. And if you're keeping up with the news, you'll know there's winter blackouts scheduled for our country this winter. If not, im sure you've been through a blackout before in winter and know how hard it is to keep warm. So, pull the trigger on this one. Final note; it's been running for 30 minutes and my living room has gone up one degree to a comfortable 64. Anything that keeps the furnace from kicking in is a plus.
