Description

Tiny Homes on the Move chronicles 21st-century nomads — people who inhabit homes that are compact and mobile, either on wheels or in the water. In photos and stories, this fascinating book explores modern travelers who live in vans, pickup trucks, buses, trailers, sailboats, and houseboats that combine the comforts of home with the convenience of being able to pick up and go at any time. Top Amazon Reviews

  • Life-changing, dream-defining masterpiece
Format: Paperback
I have read many books on RVs, trailers and alternative forms of shelter, including one other that I reviewed fairly recently. This is the best by such a wide margin that there's no comparison. Here's why: -Excellent profiles not just of "stuff" but of people. These people provide inspiration, represent a great diversity of personalities, geographic locations, lifestyles and home styles, and give the book a lot of true character. -Lots of pictures showing not glitz but detail. So many books like this look like they were conceived by the publisher's graphic designers and not the content creator. This book is different. The pictures help tell the story and you can tell these aren't models put there for effect, but the real people. -Lots of words. Going with the above, many books like this are full of pictures with skimpy descriptions of the people who really make the story, leading one to think the pictures were actually taken in a museum or something and human details are mainly the product of the author's speculation. "Look how people must have used this..." and so on. Not here. Many of the profiles are in the subject's own words, while others are well written in the third-person. -Perfect blend of "tech" and story. If you are interested in building such a vehicle, there are details here, and if you're just interested in reading about these people, it's still fascinating. Some books are all about facts and figures, losing the dream in piles of minutiae, while others are all fluff and no meat. Here you have both the material to form a dream and enough detail to make it materialize. -Beautifully printed, large format. There's just an impressive amount of quality content here. Hundreds of vehicle pictures, many shots of interiors and settings, and of course the text that makes this a real book with substance and not a coffee table book that you flip through and put down. I am ordering two more copies for.people I care about who have some of the same dreams I do and will value and treasure this book as I do. I cannot recommend it highly enough. - ... show more

  • Amazing book! A pure delight to marvel at!
Format: Paperback
Another awesome, eclectic book from Lloyd Kahn!! Absolutely gorgeous photos with examples and narratives from around the world!! Don't ever just purchase a download of any of his works! These are books you will want to keep and treasure. Great fun to share with your like-minded tiny house (or other tiny structure) friends. ... show more

  • Lloyd Kahn at His Finest
Format: Paperback
Ah, Lloyd Kahn had done it again : given us "little people" a healthy dose of the Good Life as applies to practical, earth-friendly shelter. He has been my hero for many. many years...and readers will enjoy his demonstrations of how everyone can live simply and cheaply, in harmony with Mother Earth . The photography herein is likewise quite well done. Living Small is here to stay ! ... show more

  • Nice
Format: Paperback
Great idea book with a little insight into a variety of 'tiny homes'. Not a DIY guide on how to build one. More of an idea book of what others have done (finished projects). Nicely written. If you are looking for a step-by-step or planning guide, move along because this won't do it for you. I, myself, like to get ideas from all aspects & uses to help my creativity for planning my own project. ... show more

  • an inspirational idea book
Format: Paperback
This is a glossy "idea book" with tons of pictures to inspire anyone you wants to get a broad view of the types of abodes that qualify as moveable tiny homes. The stories (and the book appears to be designed to present as many stories as possible) are dominated by photos, not text, and contain no floor plans but abound with examples of unique homes that other people have built and lived in successfully for years. Every time I open it, I see something new. I highly recommend it for the inspiration it gives and the fun it provides, even if you are only a tiny-house dreamer and wish to embark on some vicarious traveling. Perfect to enjoy and to share with friends and family. ... show more

  • Great Photos, Interesting Insights
Format: Paperback
Great book with tons of pictures. Gave me a great idea of what is possible in 'tiny' spaces either in wheeled (trailer, wagon) or water environments. Interesting to read about the people who live in these small homes and their thoughts on life, why they decided to live in a smaller home, some of their design decisions and in some cases what they would do differently if starting over again. ... show more

  • For two about to make their first home a tiny home, this is one terrific book.
Format: Paperback
I've purchased many tiny house books on Amazon, but I think this is my favorite of the bunch. There are so many and varied types of tiny houses included in this one book. It's fascinating to see the rich, colorful, artistic and practical ways in which people have decided to live. It's inspiring. We've decided our first home purchase will be a tiny home, and thumbing through the pages of this book time-and-time again has me excited about the future. Terrific book. ... show more
