I wouldn't say it's gold, more flat, smooth gold finish. It's definitely heavy duty, will definitely need studs for installation. they should really use clear or a color that blends better for the plastic clips that this style of set up that it uses. If you have ever had a metal stand up closet, it probably used similar set up. i have over a hundred pieces of clothing on this thing and it has no bend and is sturdy. Only other critique is that the covers that go over the screw brackets doesn't stay on. needs to be redesigned to clip on or something for future models. This unit has so many ways to configure and adapt to your space. Its really versatile. The only thing is they increased the pole size in photoshop by at least 20% in the photo. The size of the rods is pretty skinny. Still, it is sturdy enough to hold up and it doesnt take up too much space. My room is only 10x10. I added a cabinet I purchased on Amazon in the middle.
