Why, oh why, didn't I buy a Tilley sooner?! Quite simply, this is the best hat I have ever owned. For years I'd read the hype, saw the price, and then passed. Why spend so much on a hat, I thought? Now I know why. This thing is built rock solid, is comfortable enough to wear all day, and - at least I think - looks darn stylish. I know that some people have said that the cotton Tilley's are hot to wear in the sun. I haven't found this to be the case. It's been a pretty brutal summer here, compared to our usual weather. Temps in the 90s, with extremely high humidity. I haven't found the Tilley T3 to be any more hot to wear than a regular baseball cap. In fact, I think my head is a bit cooler than with a baseball cap, perhaps because if there is a slight breeze it blows under the brim and flows around the side of my head. It might just be my perception, but it feels cooler to me. The brim width is perfect - not too wide to look goofy but not too narrow to be ineffective at keeping the sun off your face and out of your eyes. I wasn't sure about the neck strap at first, but it is surprisingly effective even when just worn behind the back of your head. I haven't had the hat come off even in a pretty good breeze. I found the fit to be spot-on according to Tilley's sizing chart. I measured the circumference of my head as they instruct (with space for two fingers), and then converted it to the proper size according to the chart. Perfect fit. My only complaint about my T3 is that it looks too new :) I'm looking forward to using this hat for many, many years, and having it develop a nice "patina" from my adventures.

A wonderful hat for the long haul!

Tilley Hat T3- Is it worth it? I really think it is. Recently I completed a 500 mile hike with the much older "brother" of my new T3 and it was great, especially considering it was more than 20 years old! It retains its comfort and shape, becomes slightly stiffer when rained upon and so keeps water beading up and rolling off for a drier head, and feels so light I forget I have it on. When it gets windy I am able to use the two strap way of wear to keep it on my head without fear of it falling off the back or the front of my head. When it starts to look a bit dingy I remove its foam crown liner and wash it in slightly warm water with a mild detergent and it spruces right up. If it dries and seems to shrink a bit I put it on my knee and gently pull it back into shape. I am impressed with my T3 and believe you will enjoy it, too. Oh, it has grommets on both sides so if you want to get those outer "wings" out of the way they are easy to snap up. Such a great hat! The photos attempt to show the different ways I enjoy wearing this hat and its condition after a sweaty summer month of using it. I have washed them before but haven't had to so far wit this one.

Excellent hat, with clever design!

Excellent hat, lots of subtle features make it a great practical hat: 1. Attachment string (under your chin) works excellently! You can adjust without re-tying the knot (the section with the knot should be inside the hat, so under your chin is just the soft string). So, without needing to tie it, you can adjust to be tighter (high wind) or looser just by pulling the string through the grommets on the side. Once you have it on, you can tighten (or loosen) by just tugging on the string at the sides without taking the hat off. If you don’t need the string under your chin (sunny day, no wind), you can just toss the string into the hat and it is out of the way. 2. Nice little Velcro storage compartment in the top (I have used for keys, money, etc, when hiking or wading) 3. Grommets in top allow air circulation (not a lot, but enough to work well). 4. Snaps on side to fold up either or both sides (OK, I admit I have never wanted to do this :). 5. Durable - tolerates folding and smashing. Yet made from a very nice heavy material. Can throw it in the wash machine, then wear it again with no trouble. So, if you can avoid losing it, it is certainly worth the cost!

I purchased this hat as my second Tilley hat. Construction and quality appears to be good. I have an LTM6 Airflow that is a 7 1/4 which fits perfectly. It may be a bit too tight compared to Tilley's fit guide but I love it. Now with that said I purchased the T3 snap up thinking it would be the same size since I ordered the exact same size. The T3 snap up is considerably bigger. It is too big for my head to the point where I can get my ears in the hat band and two fingers and move it with a lot of ease. I'm not sure what hat size I need now. I'm guessing one hat size down would be my size if not two sizes. It depends on how you like the fit. Like I said that I like mine a little more snug than what I think Tilley recommends. So with that said anyone purchasing this hat might want to consider buying a size down. Just so you know my LTM6 has never been washed nor dried. It is still fairly new. I hope this helps anyone considering this hat. I think it is a great hat if you can get the sizing right. I don't know which hat size to go by. I was able to buy my first Tilley in store so I knew that it fit. After measuring my head I may be a 7 1/8. Again I hope this info is used as a size reference for anyone considering this hat as a purchase. I don't know why there is a size difference. All around it seems like a great hat, I just wish it fit. I'm still giving it a 4 star rating.

This is my third Tilly hat. I wore the first one out but it was replaced only for the cost of shipping. Since most of my hat wearing these days is working in the yard, that replacement hat got pretty dirty, but it washes fine. My wife suggested a hat for non-yard work so that is my third. Needless to say, I highly recommend them
