With this filter, highlight flares are controlled, contrast is lowered, but with less lightening of shadows for a more delicate effect and it also creates a soft light "pastel" effect. This is a very delicate effect with contained highlight flare. This Hollywood/FX filters were originally designed for the TV and Motion Picture industry, but are now available to all photographers and videographers.

I did not selected a used option when I purchased, but I received a used item. It was very dusty and dirty. There was also a small nick on the edge of the glass, but I was unable to capture that in the photo. However, I did test it, and the filter did work nicely. I just had to clean it off a good bit first. But it does apper to be worth the hype and would deliver the desired affect, as long as you don't receive a dirty/damaged item. The glass on the filter is good and the effect from it is great. The filming goal was achieved with this so it can still have 4 stars but the build quality of it is fairly bad. When i first went to wipe the filter off i noticed the glass shifting back and forth. The glass isn't even tight in the ring and shifts around. Things like that are usually a sign you bought a total piece of junk. Not even my 10 dollar Amazon polarizer does that. The packaging itself is also so terrible too. My other filters, including the cheap amazon one came with nice filter containers that store and protect them perfectly. This packaging is super janky and the filter freely slides around back and forth in it with a tiny little cheap piece of factory foam they cut off and stuck in there with it. So basically these filters don't have a storage container they come with. The original container can be used but seriously? Do better Tiffen, these are expensive filters. When a single little piece of glass costs 70 bucks all the details should be right. ... show more

I've used $5 filters and I've used $100 filters. When it comes to filters, you will absolutely get what you pay for. I recently started filming more people and the 1/4 Black Pro Mist makes a world of a difference. The lighting is much softer in camera and it is much easier to lock in accurate exposures and colors.
