  • Great watch made even better.
Color: Obsidian
I picked this watch up as an upgrade to my TicWatch Pro 3, which I have been using for almost 3 years now. I will say I am quite happy with the upgrade. I've been using it for almost 2 weeks now, and figured I would share my thoughts. The Pro 5 looks almost identical to the 3. It is, IMHO, a great size for a watch. It's not a giant clunker (which some watches are), but it's not so small that you can't easily make out what's on the screen if there's a lot of data on it. It's comfortable to wear; I wear it 24/7 except for when I'm in the shower. Where the 3 had two big buttons, the 5 has one button in the size bezel, and one large button that's a rotating crown. The crown is great for easily scrolling through menus and lists, the button mappings are nice and easy to access previous and most used apps. It would be nice to be able to change what the button mappings are (I was really surprise that it wasn't an option in the phone app), BUT: 1. I find them useful (double press on the top button opens up Wallet), and 2. there are other options (below). It uses a new app, Mobvoi Health, which has all of the bio data that the watch tracks, and also allows you to control the watch. When I say "control the watch", I don't mean it lightly. The app is pretty impressive, you can easily set things like screen timeout, what alerts you get from the phone, what calendars you want, ability to zoom the watch screen, etc. You can pick from some really great watch faces (I had been previously using Facer, but honestly there were some really great out-of-the-box faces, and I didn't find any reason to reinstall it). Some faces even have mappable complications that you can set from the phone app. What I couldn't do by mapping a button, I could easily map any app installed on the watch to a complication. I found that I use the app for my car a lot, so on my watch I swapped out the default complication (heart rate) for my car app. The "quick actions" (not sure what they are really called) you get from pulling down from the top have expanded (now two pages worth), and you can edit the screen and put the ones you use the most in whatever position you want, which is super convenient. Oddly enough, you CAN'T do this for the main app list (where you could do it on the 3). I was pretty disappointed that you couldn't click and drag to reorder the apps, but again, there's another solution: Pressing the crown in brings up the app list which you can PIN apps to the top (can't reorder), or you can press the top button to bring up the last 6 or 8 most recently used apps, and between the two of those options make it pretty easy to get to whatever app you want to use. I feel like I'm rambling a bit, but I have to comment on the power use of this watch. I stuck with the Ticwatch Pro 3 for so long because of how well it handled power. I would charge it about every other day and that's really all it needed. The 5 puts the 3 to shame. I first got the 5 on Tuesday afternoon...Saturday afternoon it was down to 12%, which included set up and playing around with the phone. It uses the same proprietary charger as the 3 (THANK YOU MOBVOI), so now I have two :) It charges quickly, and you get an alert when it's all done (minor, but I REALLY appreciate this). Not only that, but it handles it's mode switching SO much better. If you aren't aware, the TicWatchs have 2 screens, one a general LED screen (forgive me, I don't know what flavor of LED screen it is), but over that it has an LCD screen (like an old-school digital watch) for always-on screen with low power consumption. If the 3 got really low on power, it would enter this "essential mode" where it basically only used the LCD screen, and you lost access to apps and LED screen (which I thought was great: instead of a dead watch you still have a functional digital watch). To get out of that mode, you would need to charge & reboot the watch. The 5 not only effortlessly switches in & out of essential mode without any reboots, but it still tracks all of the biometric functions (sleep, O2, heart rate - all great, btw, but I'm not writing War and Peace here) AND you can now modify the LCD screen to display different information on it. I really have to say this is a great watch. It's a big improvement over the 3, and I thought that watch was a big improvement over the other watches that I've had (a couple of Samsungs and one other). I could go on - there are lots of great QoL things, like the flashlight has two modes (one turns the screen white and the other turns the screen red so you don't kill your night vision), lots of other nice touches, but this is already TLDR. If you get this watch, you will not be disappointed. I'm quite happy with it. ... show more

  • The legacy of the TicWatch continues with the Pro 5
Color: Obsidian
This is my 3rd smart watch since 2018. I started with the original TicWatch Pro and was so impressed with the quality, functionality and battery life that I upgraded to the TicWatch Pro 3 GPS in 2021. Mobvoi made sure to only refine what worked well with the previous model and enhance it by adding new functionality/sensors. There were issues here and there on both of these models, but they were resolved fast. I was on the fence on whether I needed to upgrade to the latest model and got the push from Mobvoi, as a part of their Power Users they asked that I provide feedback on the TicWatch Pro 5. So, I decided to go ahead and get it. Wow, they did it again, refined what has worked so well in all the previous models and added improvements in areas that were lacking and added new features/sensors. Let's break down the features. * Size It's the perfect size. Slim enough to no be awkward, big enough display to be able to read easily. I love that it was the same size screen as the previous model because the 3 pack of screen protectors fit perfectly. * Ultra-low-power Dual-layer Display Truly the best feature of these watches and the reason you can get multiple days on a charge. This is such a great feature, being able to still get time, date, steps, heart rate and battery level without having to "turn on" the display is by far the top priority now on any future smart watch purchase. * 80 hours of battery life/Fast charging I had hoped they would have added wireless charging, but I was surprised how fast it charges now. And because they used the same charger dock as the Pro 3, I can have a charger in multiple locations. And if they did not do wireless charging in order to ensure the size of the watch stays slim, I'm glad they did. * Built-in GPS, Compass and Barometer I don't have a specific opinion on these features. Not something that would have swayed my purchase. * Heart Rate, Blood Oxygen and Stress monitoring The health monitoring features of the watch are fantastic. As a person who has minor heart health issues, I love the reassurance of knowing that it's being monitored and can alert if it detects abnormalities. * One Tap Measurement of Multiple Health Metrics Love this, being able to take multiple measurements with a single tap without having to go into each app separate is such a major convivence. * Steps Tracker Working in IT and sitting at desk most of the day has taken its toll on my health and having the ability to track and be reminded to get up and move around has made quite a bit of difference in how I feel physically and mentally. * Sleep Tracking Part of healthy living is healthy sleep. So being able to get detailed information about how I'm sleeping has been such a huge benefit. The only problem I have is that it sometimes breaks up the sleep into multiple records. This usually happens if I have to get up to use the restroom in the middle of the night. * Rotating Crown offers effortless yet versatile control I love how they changed out the two-button configuration to the rotating crown and single more recessed button. If I bent my wrist right on the previous models it would act as a long press and restart my watch. I haven't had that issue with this new configuration. And being able to navigate around using the rotating crown is so much smoother than swiping the screen. * 5ATM Water Resistant/MIL-STD-810H Can't speak to this yet as it's too cold to use the pool yet. * Speaker and Mic Don't really use the watch as a speaker phone so can't speak to this. I only have 4 complaints and I think it has to do with upgrade to Wear OS 3. 1. I can't snooze or stop alarms on my phone from the watch anymore. I use alarms a lot because I easily lose track of time and when I'm in the car driving when one goes off it was very convenient to be able to stop/snooze it from my watch instead of having to dig my phone out of my pocket. 2. Using TimeShow for watch faces. It's clunky and I miss having just their own little area to get different Mobvoi watch faces. 3. Skin temp measurement. The sleep tracking is supposed to be able to measure skin temp but it reports 0 for me. Not a huge deal, just not sure why it's not working. 4. The splitting up of a night's sleep in the sleep tracker if I have to get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom. Overall, I highly recommend the TicWatch Pro 5. They are a quality company, and the TicWatch Pro has a legacy of being a great smart watch. ... show more
