  • A Close Second...
Color: Black
As far as smartwatches go, this is undoubtedly one of the best to buy in terms of cost/performance. However, despite its superior case and bezel design, feature-wise, it's not much of an improvement over the previous generation, and it falls behind noticeably in several areas... I'll break down the various parts of the watch, what works, and what doesn't, and add final thoughts below. I'll be comparing this at some points to the Fossil Gen 5 Carlyle, as it is one of the closest competitors. Case: The case is made of lightweight composite, and the lugs for the band are fully integrated. The charge points are in a place where they won't rub too much, but there is a risk the device will not charge if they corrode. Contact rings or inductive charging would have been a better choice. Face & Bezel: The face is clear, and easy to read, and I like a watch with a nice big face. The raised bezel is excellent, as it provides clear protection against accidentally bashing the screen itself if you carelessly brush against a door-frame or wall, for example. Power: Unfortunately, this watch does not support fast charging, compared to the Fossil Gen 5, and must be charged specifically at 5v/1a, or it will burn out. (They NEED to clearly mark this either on the packaging, or in the manual, as well as include a USB wall wart with those specs, as most people will probably plug the charger into a spare cell phone charger, and subsequently burn the device out). I recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B076C58YMX/ Battery life is acceptable, although heavy usage will mean running out of power before your day is over. The second TFT screen really shines here, as it means the watch doesn't turn into a complete paperweight, and it really should be a feature included on more smartwatches... Waterproofing: The lack of full swimmability is not appreciated, since for the money the last thing you want is to lose this to a fall off the dock, or getting pushed into the pool. However, it will survive a run through a faucet or similar running water without issue. Band: The band is OK, but not very good. Switch to a multilink metal band instead for better ventilation and ease of cleaning. I recommend this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GZC81MP/ Controls: The two-button setup, with one programmable button, is several years out of date, as manual controls go. Instead, TicWatch should have taken a page from the Fossil Gen 5, and implemented the two programmable buttons, and center crown setup, which are the most usable set of manual controls, hands down. Storage: The fact that you have barely 1.5gb to install apps and store data is far and away one of the most egregious issues, as most other competitors offer almost 6gb. This is especially evident when trying to install feature heavy apps, use the device for voice recording, and store music and video files. You will run out of space very fast. Speed: Bringing the RAM capacity up to a full 1GB makes WearOS function smoothly, with no noticeable lag when operating menus, streaming music, using your phone as a periscope or remote camera, and even playing video. However, the fact the device is not utilizing the Snapdragon 3100 with its low power cores, mean ambient has a faint but noticeable flicker, especially with a full color ambient screen. This also means the device will sometimes enter ambient mode while the full watch face is still displaying, but only dimmed, and this will impact battery life. Sensors: The heart rate sensor seems to be accurate, and off-body detection works. Tap and Pay works as expected. Features I'd like to see in a future version: Higher pixel density screen. Snapdragon 3100 processor, for better low power mode, and more reliable ambient mode. two-button and rotating crown controls, as this is the best manual control scheme for a smart WATCH. Left Handed Mode. Overall, this is one of the better options out there, with the only major issues being the storage capacity, and lack of better manual controls. However, it feels more like a Generation 1.5 than a true Generation 2.0. The inclusion of the newer mobile processor, expanded app and data storage, and updated manual controls would have brought it fully inline with the current standard. But in the end, if you want a rugged watch that will get you through the day, and still look stylish, this watch will meet your needs fairly well. UPDATE: Had a very productive conversation with Mobvoi over the phone regarding this review, and future development. Kudos to them for caring about their products, and listening to the customer. ... show more

  • Fantastic battery life, easy to use
Color: Black
I'm 78-years old, do not have a smart home, pay for things around town with pieces of paper we call cash, so I may not be your normal smartwatch commentator. My idea of a workout is walking my dog morning and evening. My number of heartbeats doesn't interest me as long as it's still beating. I had a Ticwatch Pro 2018 and decided to try the Ticwatch Pro 2020. At first I thought the increase from 512Mb to 1Gb was worth it but the entire experience seems to be smoother. I don't know if it's an updated version of WearOS or better integration between Mobvoi and Google but I like it and would recommend it. My only complaint is the box. I finally got it open and before I closed it I put a string around it to use to pull the damned thing open. Now to decide which nephew gets my Ticwatch 2018. August 18, 2020 It's now been five months and I'm even happier with my Ticwatch Pro 2020. I had a problem with it resetting some settings on its own but a recent update seems to have solved that problem. Other than that, it's been perfect for me. When I go to bed in the evening I put it on the charger and it normally has about 70% charge left. I do occasionally reset to factory for all my digital devices and I think I've done the Ticwatch twice. A minor point. I have no cover on my face of the watch and after being worn every day for five months, and me being clumsy, there are no scratches whatsoever. ... show more

  • Best gets better
Color: Black
I've had the TicWatch Pro for a while, and loved it, mostly. Sometimes when it was trying to do too many things at once the lag would get pretty bad. I've only had the 2020 model a few hours, but I can already tell it's an improvement. One of the times guaranteed to lag was right after power on, when it was trying to connect to wifi, sync with the phone, and all the other start up things. This one doesn't lag, it just powers through it. Same great dual-level display, same battery, same 100% Android Wear driven, but faster and without the lag. ... show more

  • Dick Tracy Would Be Jealous Of This Watch
Color: Black
Great watch. The most impressive feature for me is the ability to answer and make phone calls from the watch. The speaker on the watch allows you to clearly hear the call and the person on the other end has no idea I am talking to them through my watch. I have created a customized watch face using the Ultimate Watch 2 watch face app that has multiple shortcuts to other wear os apps like Google Fit, Weather, Heart Rate and the Bubble Cloud Tile Launcher. From the Bubble Cloud screen on the watch I can make calls and send text messages to my favorite contacts. I can also control functions on our Tesla Model 3 car like open the trunk, open the frunk and open the charger port. In addition, I can launch other apps that are on the watch. Battery life is not a problem since I charge the watch every night when I go to bed and I normally have around 70% charge remaining when I put it on the charger. The only major con to the watch for me is the screen is harder to read in bright sunlight. I have been looking for a watch like this for a long time after the buttons on my orphaned Pebble watch stopped working. In the interim I owned an Amazfit Bip Smartwatch by Huami - an excellent watch with long battery life. However, it lacks a lot of features of the Wear OS environment that I had with my Pebble watches. I highly recommend this watch. ... show more
