  • Daily rider here. LOVE this seat!
Color: Blue
I live in Seattle, where tons of families bike with their kids, and this is THE seat to have. You see them all over town. So when I found a great deal on one through Amazon Warehouse, I snapped it up, even though I didn't yet have a bike to put it on :) I've since added an Xtracycle Free Radical to the back of my hybrid bike, and installed the seat on that. I specifically got a Flightdeck 2 for my Free Radical, as it has built-in Easyfit windows: This saved me from to paying another $30 for the Easyfit adapter, and the seat sits a few inches lower (directly on the deck vs. up on the adapter), which is slightly more stable. It did take me a minute to figure out that I had to actually cut out the Easyfit window from the Flightdeck 2. It has indentations on the bottom showing where to cut, so this was pretty simple. Once that was done, securely installing the Yepp Maxi Easyfit was a breeze. The included lock is a nice feature, so I can just lock up my bike when I'm out and about, and not have to worry about someone walking off with the seat. I ride with my almost 3 year old daily, for school drop-offs. She weighs around 35 lbs. She fits comfortably and snugly in the seat, with plenty of room to grow. She LOVES it and begs to go biking. I found that the shoulder straps tended to slide off her shoulders, but moving the harness up to the highest setting and tying together the strap ends to make a sort of "chest belt" has completely solved that problem. Having her weight back there did take some getting used to, as it makes the bike slightly less stable, especially when turning sharply, but we haven't had any mishaps yet. My friends who have dumped their bikes with their kids onboard (hey, it happens!) say that the seat does an amazing job of "cocooning" the occupant and preventing injury. I originally used panniers (Ortlieb Backrollers) on my Free Radical's p-racks, and those fit fine in front of the seat, one on each side. Now I have Xtracycle X1 Freeloader bags, and those work, too. On a regular rack, you probably won't be able to fit panniers/bags when the seat is installed. Also, Xtracycle's X2 bags don't work well with this seat. The material is soft and rubbery, very comfortable for the child, but also great in rainy Seattle weather as it repels water better than fabric does. We also have a Bobike Mini front seat, and a Burley trailer. The front seat is my absolute favorite for a smaller child, as it's fun being able to point things out and have conversations, and it has virtually no effect on the handling of the bike. Unfortunately, my 3 year old outgrew it a few months ago, so now it's either the Yepp Maxi or the trailer. I generally prefer the Yepp Maxi; it does affect bike handling some, and it's not quite as good for conversing as the front seat, but it's pretty good. The trailer is my choice on very cold or rainy days, because I can tuck in my daughter with a blanket and know she'll be protected from the elements. If I had to choose only one of those three options for transporting a kid via bike, it would probably be the Yepp Maxi. It lasts longer than a front seat and is more fun than a trailer on all but the coldest/wettest of days. (And on those coldest/wettest of days, a toddler-size JJ Cole Bundle Me fits really well in this seat!) As long as you have a compatible bike/rack, I highly recommend this seat! (If you don't have a compatible bike/rack, check out the Yepp Maxi non-Easyfit version.) ... show more

  • Feels great, can't wait to ride with it
Color: Blue
It's so expensive I did have to dock a star, especially since I needed to buy a rack adapter for it to fit on my bike. It does look really cool, and I was able to run a zip tie through the shoulder strap spot not being used so I could hang my flashing rear light. Thule makes a light that does fit on the back for like $30, but it seemed to be lacking blinking options in the reviews. Overall I purchased this for safety and if I purchase a cargo bike I can mount 2 of these on the back. Also the Thule Yepp Maxi is around 10 pounds the Thule Yepp Nexxt is supposed to around half that weight, which is something to consider as all racks have a weight limit. I really like the comfort level added to this seat over our previous seat which was a hard plastic Co pilot that had a thin layer of padding. The 5 point harness is a huge step up in safety over the copilot that my 2 year old son had started sliding down the plastic chest harness you slide up to be level with the armpits so the straps are over the shoulder, and then he would slide his arms out from under it like he was climbing out his car seat... Now he would still be strapped in, but really only at the waist now, this design is far superior for that safety. The buckle is more secure with 2 areas you need to press on to open. And the foot rests are adjustable! Perfect for my taller than average 2 year old. The foot straps I like more on the co pilot, they utilized velcro which is a perfect snug fit for those ever changing foot sizes, even worked with sandals. The thule uses like a belt style strap with holes about an inch apart, I anticipate they will work out just fine as there are numerous glowing reviews for this seat. I am still waiting for my seat adapter to put it on the bike, but my kid climbed right in the seat while I held it. Also I like the multiple reflectors on the back of the thule seat. I'll find a way to secure my flashing rear light as I did with the co pilot, which was done with a zip tie through the extra shoulder strap harness I wasn't using. It is a tad on the heavy side, but so is my kid at 30 pounds... I'm not trying to win any races with this setup... Pros: Comfort, safety, peace of mind.. Cons: Expensive, over twice the price of my co pilot (which lap bar broke after years of use and abuse... And I wanted a more secure harness). Foot straps aren't my favorite but should be fine. Doesn't just fit on any rack, may need the adapter for around $50, or thule rack for around $70. It was all the reviews about safety and countless bike stores/websites that mention the Thule Yepp Maxi. I only wish there were more color options, neon safety green please. I thought orange hid the reflectors a bit so I went for blue. ... show more

  • Well-built, solid Thule quality and design
Color: Blue
Summary: A great bike seat for your toddler, just make sure the size fits. It's built to Thule's high quality standard reputation. I hoped this seat would accommodate my child at least a couple of years but it's too small for his size (~42") as is, and so had to return it. Pros: - Material is excellent, comfortable for long or bumpy rides, built for durability and extreme weather - Lives up to the Thule reputation - Package arrived intact and very well packaged Cons: - Too small for my 4 y/o at his 42" height, leaving little room to grow Other observations: While not necessarily an issue with this particular Thule seat, my toddler falls asleep during rides (as many do) and there is some risk of sleeping toddlers in this style of seat straining their necks while falling asleep. It would be nice if Thule or other bike seat mfrs built some sort of brace or adapter to protect kids' necks while they fall asleep on a ride. ... show more
