  • Its great, make some adjustments and get a warranty.
Color: Black Style: Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Ferrari 458...
Update 9/7/15: From 4 stars to 5! Working better than ever! After some time of me not playing I pulled it back out for some racing. My plug issue (see below) seemed to be getting worse and I really was becoming annoyed. It would take several tries to get it to boot and calibrate without shutting off from the shock caused by the wheel flying back and forth. The other day I got so annoyed I rammed the plug into the back of it...and felt it slide in firmly. It hasn't been plugged in all the way this whole time. I'm a tad embarrassed but I also know there had to have been something wrong since I had to press it in so hard. But I'm happy to say now that its in firmly I've had zero issues! I'm updating my review to 5 stars for that reason. I recently purchased Project Cars, the wheel seems to get a heck of a work out during that game. It gets warmer than ever and I can smell some hot plastic odor but nothing too bad. I really hope its not too much work for it. Forza 6 is coming soon, hopefully I can continue making positive updates to this wheel! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 1/13/15: Still working! I had put it into storage for a month or so after finishing the Forza titles. Once the DLC was released I dove back in. I was terrified to plug the wheel back in, it started immediately but the nagging plug issue I've had since I bought it was an issue. It took several tries of unplugging and wiggling the power cable on the back of the wheel before it stayed on steadily. If anyone else is having this problem I can suggest this "fix" or work around: Turn your wheel all the way to the left before plugging it in. The wheel does some sort of testing while starting up, it turns all the way to the left, slamming into the stopper and then goes right. My problem is when it hits the left it must be enough movement to make the power cable lose connection. Once I started leaving the wheel at the full left position it seemed to work. I'll admit I'm not pleased with having to do this every time on a wheel I paid $300+ for, but its still the best option without making a warranty claim. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I bought was pretty unsure about buying this wheel after reading the reviews. I let out an exhale after it worked right away and again after a few hours of play. It seemed to be fine. I immediately downloaded Forza Horizon 2 while I tried it out on Forza 5. It feels great. I came from the Xbox 360 racing wheel, which I liked a lot. But this wheel feels more realistic, certainly more powerful in the force feedback. It reminds me of playing 90's arcade racing games. I always loved and was amazed by the feel of a quality San Francisco Rush cabinet. I had never driven a car at that point in life but it just felt...real. This is the first time I've had that same level of power at home. I will note it's important to play with the settings. I'll share one tip that made things feel a lot better in the Forza games, change the wheel rotation from 900 degrees to 330. It may not be perfect for all but it feels so much better in those games. The steering feels tight and responsive, when you switch to the in car view you can see the drivers hands matching your movement. Before switching those settings I'd have to crank that wheel so far to one direction it was hard to correct it. I'm sure some will love that more realistic feel of 900 degree rotation but I believe most will feel more comfortable with the 330. The wheel is plastic, which is slightly disappointing for the price but not a deal breaker for me. The pedals feel especially cheap but once they are bolted or attached to a wheel stand you'll hardly notice. There is a fan in the wheel that kicks on during heavy use and I've yet to noticed hot air coming from the unit. It doesnt seem like it will overheat easily. Now to the negative: The day after I set it up I eagerly went to play, it started up again but during its Left to right wheel check it died. I thought that was it, but after touching the power cable it started up again and died...again. I soon found out the problem was a loose connection between the power supply and cord. I've not read of anyone having this same problem. When I played and barely bumped the power cord dangling from the unit it would lose power. I'd have to fully unplug from the back and plug it back in. Once I mounted it to my racing stand and zip tied the power cable to where it wouldnt move the problem has mainly stopped. I'm still wrestling with myself on whether to return for a new one from Amazon, or just feel lucky my problem isn't as severe as others. I have set up an RMA with Amazon after contacting support and getting no response after 3 days. The response I got was not very satisfactory, but I will admit I'm hard to please when it comes to that. Especially when Amazon is great and will take it back at no cost to me. I do think I'll keep it and just deal with the slight annoyance. Pros: -Feels great! -Seems to be the best option available right now. -Powerful Force Feedback -Xbox One & PC support (Have not used it on PC) -Really adds to the racing experience. Cons: -Reliability issues (read recommendation below) -Feels slightly cheap -Price: I'd feel better if this were priced at $249-$279 Recommended! -BUY A WARRANTY! Seach Squaretrade warranty and choose "Electronics - Other", be sure to choose the proper price range. I would not have kept this wheel if I didn't buy the 3 year warranty for under $30. Its well worth the piece of mind. Square trade has been great with other warranties I've purchased. -Attach this bad boy to a stand! Its too powerful for your lap, you can try it but the base isn't set up for it. If you're a male, you will probably not enjoy slamming your legs closed to support the small base. I tried using a dinner tray and that was miserable. It was too high and too wobbly. If you can't afford the $100 for the cheapest stand you can attempt what I did. I spent $20 on some lumber, brackets, screws and velcro to build a very crude stand. I'm not very handy and the wife had a good laugh at it but it saved me $80 extra dollars for the cheap stand. If you choose to build your own, think simple. I built a simple base platform for the pedals, an extra piece of wood at the back to keep the pedals from sliding off, used some velcro to stick the pedals down for extra support and use a 2x4 and piece of particle board to go between my legs and mount the wheel on. I'll include the picture, keep in mind it was before I tied down all of the wires. ... show more

  • Great wheel, great value (especially for XB1). Save for the add-ons, they really turn it up to 11.
Color: Black Style: Thrustmaster TX Racing Wheel Ferrari 458...
Great wheel. I used to have a force GT, which was a great all around good value. As soon as I tried this wheel I could not believed the level of realisim and feedback one gets. I've used it in Forza 5, Dirt Rally and most recently Horizon 2. On horizon 2 the Force feedback really shines thru. I do have to admid however that the stock configuration is not ideal. The standard wheel feels toy like. Too plastic. The pedals are not bad, if you don't miss the 3 pedal. And yes, mine broke too. I got a replacement back within a week free of charge. Those things happen. My setup has the TH8A shifter, T3PA pedals, and the Ferrari GTE wheel. All toghether it comes to be a little on the expensive side, but you can minimize cost by looking around for deals. All things considered this setup ultimatelly comes up to be slightly lower, or at worst at the same price as the competition from what I've seen. Also if you are a racing fan, it is a small price to pay for the experience, as it is safer and way cheaper than real racing. :P I have the F1 wheel too, but I haven't used much since I mostly do Horizon now a days. Hopefully when Forza 6 comes, I'll be hable to give it some hours. For the seat frame, I opted to build my own. A couple of boards from a hardware store and some screws are cheaper than any decent setup I saw online. It may not look pretty, but then again I don't think a racing seat and some tubes look pretty in any living room either. I painted mine mat black, and when lights are off, all I see is the screen. Building it yourself, you can setup your sitting possition as you like, I went for something similar to an LMP/F1 seating possition. it is nice. *** Make sure, whatever the base you use for it it is sturdy, not only strong, but also stiff. The forced feedback is really strong, really strong. It gives real feel and feedback, think about turning the wheels in a non powersteered car. If the frame is not sturdy it will deflect and you will loose some of the feel. You can dial down the feedback, but according to me, if you are paying that much for a setup you might as well get the most out of it. *** To recap. Great wheel, great value (especially for XB1), considered what is on the market. If you can, save for the add-ons, they really turn it up to 11. Sturdy base needed. If you have any questions let me know. ... show more
