I’ve had a therm-a-rest classic since the 90’s, but it was only 20” wide and a little heavy for the insulation it provides. I bought the 24” wide trail scout, it is wider, lighter, and seems to provide even better insulation. Folds and rolls into a tighter package too. I prefer a self-inflating pad, so this is the best value for weight and Rvalue in the self inflating class. I’m recommending to all my scouts. ... show more

I got this Thermarest sleeping pad for a camping vacation. I tried it out and was very disappointed. The only positive thing I can say about it, is that it’s very quick and easy to inflate.     • Thermarest Quality on a Budget
Thermarest are the kings of camping and backpacking sleeping pads. The Trail Scout is the most budget friendly in their line-up, but it's still a solid pad for general use. Pro: Quality build. Durable, not very prone to puncture compared to others. Self-inflating with decent insulation. Reasonable cost for a top brand. Backpackable. Con: Not very thick. The thinnest in their line-up, thus may not be comfortable, especially for side sleeping. Only moderately warm. If you are a cold sleeper, don't have a warm sleeping bag, or camp in cool weather (down to about 40) you may find yourself cold sleeping on this. Also a bit heavy for a pad of this size. For a little more money you can upgrade to the TR ProLite series, which is lighter, thicker, and warmer for $20-50 more money. If thinking of going in cold weather, Thermarest's Trail Pro is much thicker and warmer, and only slightly heavier as far as their self-insulating pads go. ... show more
