Top Amazon Reviews

  • Revised and updated review
Platform: Xbox 360
Open the WHOLE comment for the updated info and a HINT on a few things :::: At first, I figured this would sort of follow the "Manhunt" game style -- but it is an interactive comic and styled similar to how AMC runs the series, you get "next time on..." inserts and "previously on the...." between the episodes, and don't FREAK, when you finish episode one and the credits roll ---that is not the end of the game, just first impression can make you think it was. After I got into episode 2, I was getting more used to it and started to enjoy it more. Visually a nice game, music was good, and they took lots of care to get the same emotional vibe, scares, drama and sadness, as the series. But this is NOT an action platform game ---- so do read all the reviews and I'd rent to play first then decide. Replay value -- I'm on my 2nd run through (this time I'm choosing other folks to help to survive and not speaking so nice to folks, and it opens up lots of other dialogs, etc...)but after that, this will at best be a now and then, and if I'm in the mood. A well done game just a slow mover and a thinker-type game to tailor your choices as the game shifts with what you say and do. NOW FOR THE UPDATE -----after having re-played this about every way possible, I can see myself backing off for a while, and playing it over again----so I felt a 5 star was called for as replay is something I applaud. I noted lots of folks had issues with their discs - sorry guys, mine worked okay - don't know of any fixes (sounds like they rushed this out too soon hoping to beat the Activision edition to the punch?)-----and here (SPOILER ALERT) is a little hint, for a part of the game that drove me to cuss words (for me, that is a short drive, anyway). After you figure things out at the farm and break out of the barn, you creep up to the house and that whining "Ma Kettle" wanna be character has one of your party held hostage in the foyer, near the stairs. Lots of guides abound and only a few took the time to explain to me, it is not enough to s-l-o-w-l-y walk towards this Ma Kettle. She blew me away every time......be very gentle on the controls and take a SINGLE step forward - wait a breath - take another - wait a breath - and STAY in that mode of movement. She will take a few moments of pointing the gun back at you, she will back up the stairs a bit, and warn you off - then she puts the gun back to the hostages head-----repeat the step/breath process -and as she backs up a little more, you start so see by the lightening flashes, that a zombie is near the top of the steps tangled up in the handrail spindles on the left of the screen - just waiting for her and of course, eventually gets her. Then you can move the game forward. ... show more

  • I don't even like video games, and this sucked me in!
Platform: Xbox 360
My husband and I are big fans of The Walking Dead. I bought this game for him for Christmas thinking he would think it was cool. Little did I know that I would think it was cool! I am not a gamer, I am terrible at most video games (1st person shooter and all that - I fail miserably). This game is so unique though after watching my husband play I decided to give it a try and was sucked right in. The game is set up with 5 "episodes" where you play as the main character Lee, and make decisions as you go, talking with characters, choosing how to respond, and essentially create the "episode" as you go along. It's set up more like a point/click adventure game; its up to you to check cabinets for supplies, repair damaged items, search for things, and help characters as you play. Obviously there are lots of zombies, and you get to kill them too. Watch out though, because most of the decisions you make are timed, and if you don't choose, you snooze you lose and the game chooses for you. It is definitely engaging, and the story line surprised me. You actually find yourself attached to characters you wind up losing...I mean come on, its a zombie game so you're bound to watch some people bite the dust...pun intended. If you are a video game fan like my husband, or aren't like myself, this game will still fit the bill. As for problems with the disc version of the game for the XBOX 360, we've had zero problems. Maybe they fixed the glitch some people have mentioned! ... show more

  • When is an Xbox 360 not an Xbox 360?
Platform: Xbox 360
With this game, of course. Huge fan of zombies, the series (tv and comic book alike) and anticipated this release moreso than any other game in quite some time. I'm certain the game itself (when it works) is fine; but DON'T buy this release! I got suckered into what another reviewer perfectly described as "a printed handbook". Lag is so bad, it makes the game for all intents and purposes, unplayable. Since I'm not aware of any "super" Xbox 360 around (and since the packaging indicates this is for Xbox 360, NOT "super" Xbox 360) I can only assume this was not tested for bugs before released. I do not have access to XBox Live, internet, etc. or a sufficiently powerful PC in order to get this game any other way. Silly me, I figured that if something "worked" for Xbox 360, that it worked! Boy, was the surprise on me. If you can get the game, play it; just not this way. This is the first and only 1 star review I have left of ANYTHING to date, ANYWHERE. (Pardon the cheek). Good night & Good luck! ... show more

  • Excellent Game - One "Very Minor" Bug with my Disc
Platform: Xbox 360
I purchased my disc via Amazon a couple weeks ago. No Problems to report (see update below.) It looks like the bugs were successfully worked out of the system - at least for my 250GB console. Good thing, because this is a great game. Loved it. Ranks up there with LA Noire as a top two favorite. This is "NOT" a shooter game. It's an exploration game directed by a story. Yes, you will shoot and kill zombies, but you will mainly explore environments, interact with objects and other characters, and in doing so manipulate the unfolding story. It's very immersive and a ton of fun. If you're strictly into shooting games, skip it. If you like interactive story games, order it soon. You'll be happy you did. Update - wile replaying, I remembered one minor bug. It occurs at the conclusion of episode 2 when the screen transitions to a review comparing your game actions to the actions of other players. The review screen blurs and the game freezes - it won't allow you to move to the next episode. To work around it, simple exit the game (press the start key) and start a new game. Your previous game will be saved under the title Episode 2. Choose it. It will then load and transition to the start of Episode 3. No biggee. It's a bug, but a small one. Really not an issue. ... show more
