  • Learn to incorporate the tablet into your art practice
I am a traditional media artist, specifically watercolors. I have resisted the ipad, though I had it for years and the pencil too, because it never gave me the kind of tactile pleasure I get when wet brush hits paper. I am a huge admirer of Uma, her art is inspiring of course, but what I love is how she pushes her experiments in art to the limits of absurdity and stops just short, such that her paintings resonate with that energy. In this book, I get a glimpse of how she uses the ipad as a tool to push her art - 1) ipad let's you work when it is not possible to setup to paint 2) ipad let's you do things that are not possible in traditional media, like make copies and experiment with different modifications. Due to quarantine, I haven't yet used the tools in the book to do an urban sketch on the ipad, but I have used many ideas in the book to do little studies from reference photos. I think the book has just the right balance of inspiration and instruction. Great book! ... show more

  • A great addition to the Urban Sketching Handbook series
I pre ordered this little gem, and anticipated its publishing with glee. I own all the books in this series. Uma Kelkar did a great job putting it together to help folks who like to draw on a tablet, like me. I am not an urban sketcher, but the overall view of the usefulness of tablets and applications, in particular Procreate and Art Rage, should help me to get a better handle on drawing and viewing the world around me, and help me and others become more creative. It already has improved my perspective. Kudos to Uma Kelkar, an amazing artist, and to the folks at the Urban Sketchers collective. ... show more

  • ,I still found new and exciting things in this well done book...
I just received my copy of this well done book, and I recommend it to you as iPad painters. Uma has done a stellar job of pulling together very clear and useful information for all who want to know more about using an iPad to express their art. She has included many examples from the Urban Sketchers who use the iPad, and I am proud to have one of my own paintings in the book. This is only one in the Urban Sketching Handbook series, all of which will increase your knowledge and joy in sketching. ... show more

  • An essential guide to digital urban sketching
I have been eagerly awaiting publication of Uma Kelkar’s new book. The book exceeds expectations: clearly written, well- organized, full of inspiring work by talented urban sketchers, and offering a roadmap for the novice to intermediate digital sketcher to get started, have fun, and build familiarity with this new medium. Uma provides practical strategies and tips, time-saving suggestions, exercises for exploring different tools, and with the addition of a supporting website, links to manuals and curated videos with instruction on technical skills. I highly recommend this book! ... show more

  • Ready! Set! Draw!!!
This is an excellent book for the first time electronic drawer! Great suggestions and good tips! Uma also included some things to try! Not a “how to” book. It’s more of a “have to” book! You “have to” try this once you’ve read through! There are plenty of tips for the more experienced user as well! I have charged my iPad and Apple Pencil and am ready to explore procreate! Other apps are also discussed. Overall experience is great! ... show more

Ulma created a clear and fascinating book. I am not very visual so I bought it out of curiosity. The book provides tips for beginners to advanced users, it is very well laid out, has a lot of tips, pictures, and graphics. I shared it with a friend who uses tablets professionally and is a photographer, and it did open a new world for me! ... show more
