  • NOT FOR ACOUSTIC GUITAR. YOU HAVE TO ELECTRIFY FIRST.
Size: Right Handed
This device is for an acoustic electric guitar having an electric pickup, not for an acoustic guitar with no pickup. The Amazon listing does not mention "electric" at all, and the bundle needed to convert your guitar to acoustic electric is not listed at all. I did not understand that until reading the hard-to-understand installation instructions, and realized there is no place to plug it into my guitar because my guitar has no electric wiring of any kind. Amazon does not list the pickup bundle needed to make it work, only the amp itself which requires an acoustic electric guitar. The Tonewood site does say in some places that you need an acoustic electric guitar, but in other places it says that the Tonewood amp is for acoustic guitar, which is NOT TRUE. What a farce that you don't have to drill holes in your guitar. Well, that is true if the hole has already been drilled when you installed an electric pickup. If there is not existing jack, you WILL have to drill a hole in your guitar or else have a big cable coming out of the soundhole. They got me to buy the product without realizing it WILL NOT WORK for my guitar unless a pickup and jack are installed. Lesson learned: READ THE FINE PRINT. They trick you into buying the tonewood, believing that once you have a nonworking device, you will go ahead and buy the pickup and drill the hole for the cable. And so yeah I will probably do that, but I definitely feel they tricked, me. ... show more

  • Room for improvement, but it's still a solid home run!
Size: Right Handed
I've been playing acoustic and electric for over 30 years in just about any live or studio setting & context I can think of. Cons: -You can definitely tell the behavior changes as the battery gradually wears down, mostly in the TouchWah setting. (You have to retweak to get that sweet spot as the battery wears down on TouchWah. )Reverb settings still work well as the battery gets closer to death. -Installing the X-Brace is hard for guys with big hands and arms. It's doable, just will have to be methodical installing it. -It did not come with a manual, and the one online at twamps.com is very outdated. They should include a printed one. -It does clip quite easily if your guitar vibrates a lot. Most guitars with a matte finish or have been played for many years and are broken-in may experience more clipping. (That's treatable with lower volume and gain settings though) Note: No, this probably isn't loud enough for real busking. It's barely loud enough if other people in the room are talking loudly. Also there is a master gain setting. Figure that out and set the master gain in your patches early on to save you a lot of frustration. Battery life from regular alkalines (3x AA) has been between 4-5 hours. Pros: An AMAZING creative tool. I love it. I have been waiting years to own one and it's fantastic. I have been able to get lost playing for hours. I have also tried it through my acoustic amp and WOW this thing sounds absolutely huge. It's inspiring. The magnets work very well. I have been attaching/detaching it about twice a day for 2 weeks and it hasn't been an issue so far. The guitar's finish seems to be fine. I will definitely be performing with it in the near future, doing lots of solo gigs and incorporating it with my regular band gigs occasionally. It's one of the few guitar toys out there that does not get boring. The forte's are definitely in the reverbs, but they have done their best to make other settings useful. You will not get "Where The Streets Have No Name" delay without an external amp, but the delay setting is still very useful and musical. The Leslie setting is really good, but again, requires a little tweaking here and there to maximize the effect as the battery starts to wear down. Still, that setting is musical, fun, and is a pleasant break from the other sounds. The Overdrive isn't worth even mentioning. The TouchWah setting is a blast and you can get a phenomenal attack and quack out of it. Final thoughts: It clips a little easily, and that's tough when using wood as an amplifier so we can't discredit ToneWood too much here. Also I ordered some good rechargeables, and hopefully they stay in the "above 4 volts" zone a little longer and more consistently before fading out. If this were stolen, I would absolutely get a replacement ordered up right away and would probably be having fits until it arrived, it's that good. I'm so glad someone was smart enough to come up with this because I can have a full multi-hour practice and creative session without ever leaving my couch. Also, all my friends and family are blown away by how cool this thing is! No regrets on the purchase. ... show more

  • Not for seasoned guitar players
Size: Right Handed
This would be good for a new guitar player to get a more layers sound but....... With acoustic guitars the most important part of the sound is the undertones produced by the guitar. These get to be very muddy with the Tonewood Amp. To me it sounded terrible and annoying. I lasted with it for 15 minutes really hoping I was doing something wrong. I really hate to return stuff I buy, but I knew I would never use it again. ... show more

  • Regret buying this:(
Size: Right Handed
This is NOT as cool as EVERYONE online & youtube made it to be. Sure, it IS cool to have some cordless acoustic FX, but the max volume on this thing is actually really low. Bought to play for street busking, but a small crowd and/or traffic would completely drown this out completely! Also cheaply made, I had to home rig to get knob to stay on & a PAIN to Install!!!!! Don' believe the hype till you try one for yourself! I regret buying this. ... show more

  • ToneWood Amp
Size: Right Handed
This device definitely puts a whole spin on playing the acoustic guitar. It is not an amp per se so if you're playing for a group or in a good sized room you'll want to amplify your guitar. Value for the money? I looked up the price for an extra x-brace and was shocked at the price. Costs way too much. Maybe 1/2 would be reasonable!! ... show more

  • Too expensive for a toy
Size: Right Handed
Too exoensive for a toy that just adds effects from a battery operated amplifier instead of a plugged in one. A multi effects Pedal costs $50 but you do have to suffer needlessly and plug it iin I returned mine. I think Ill buy a delay pedal for $25 to celebrate my windfall and return of my self respect I wouuld pay maybe $50 for it. ... show more
