  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Room for improvement, but it's still a solid home run!
Size: Right Handed
I've been playing acoustic and electric for over 30 years in just about any live or studio setting & context I can think of. Cons: -You can definitely tell the behavior changes as the battery gradually wears down, mostly in the TouchWah setting. (You have to retweak to get that sweet spot as the battery wears down on TouchWah. )Reverb settings still work well as the battery gets closer to death. -Installing the X-Brace is hard for guys with big hands and arms. It's doable, just will have to be methodical installing it. -It did not come with a manual, and the one online at twamps.com is very outdated. They should include a printed one. -It does clip quite easily if your guitar vibrates a lot. Most guitars with a matte finish or have been played for many years and are broken-in may experience more clipping. (That's treatable with lower volume and gain settings though) Note: No, this probably isn't loud enough for real busking. It's barely loud enough if other people in the room are talking loudly. Also there is a master gain setting. Figure that out and set the master gain in your patches early on to save you a lot of frustration. Battery life from regular alkalines (3x AA) has been between 4-5 hours. Pros: An AMAZING creative tool. I love it. I have been waiting years to own one and it's fantastic. I have been able to get lost playing for hours. I have also tried it through my acoustic amp and WOW this thing sounds absolutely huge. It's inspiring. The magnets work very well. I have been attaching/detaching it about twice a day for 2 weeks and it hasn't been an issue so far. The guitar's finish seems to be fine. I will definitely be performing with it in the near future, doing lots of solo gigs and incorporating it with my regular band gigs occasionally. It's one of the few guitar toys out there that does not get boring. The forte's are definitely in the reverbs, but they have done their best to make other settings useful. You will not get "Where The Streets Have No Name" delay without an external amp, but the delay setting is still very useful and musical. The Leslie setting is really good, but again, requires a little tweaking here and there to maximize the effect as the battery starts to wear down. Still, that setting is musical, fun, and is a pleasant break from the other sounds. The Overdrive isn't worth even mentioning. The TouchWah setting is a blast and you can get a phenomenal attack and quack out of it. Final thoughts: It clips a little easily, and that's tough when using wood as an amplifier so we can't discredit ToneWood too much here. Also I ordered some good rechargeables, and hopefully they stay in the "above 4 volts" zone a little longer and more consistently before fading out. If this were stolen, I would absolutely get a replacement ordered up right away and would probably be having fits until it arrived, it's that good. I'm so glad someone was smart enough to come up with this because I can have a full multi-hour practice and creative session without ever leaving my couch. Also, all my friends and family are blown away by how cool this thing is! No regrets on the purchase. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing effects with no power.
Size: Left Handed
The sound effects this device produces is amazing, especially with no amp required. The only negative is the attachment within the guitar can be very awkward.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars The installation is pretty easy and the Effects are great - Battery lifespan Sucks.
Size: Right Handed
The Unit has some really great sounds, Plate, Hall, and Room Reverb which make your Guitar sound amazing, also comes with a nice Leslie effect and a tremolo. I updated mine, and chose to put the Chorus on the Unit, In Retrospect I wish I hadn't, I am not that impressed with the Chorus, and will at some time in the next week take it off again and go back to the factory settings, but thats just my own personal preference, you may like the Chorus. It would be nice if ToneWood could at some point do an Update with their units to give better Functionality kinda like TC Helicon did with their Perform VE series vocal units. They made those units integrate with an app on your phone that that can Beam a Sound effect from your Phone into the Unit, and gave you the options of hundred of different soundeffects to choose from, It would be nice to have an app on my phone that I could get other Guitar effects from. Overall, I am pretty Satisfied with the Unit, the batteries seem to wear down rather quickly and I wish in the future they would upgrade to a 9 volt battery that doesnt wear out as fast. They also could streamline the unit so its not so thick. I chose this ToneWood Amp over getting a $800 Guitar that had a similar function built into it, and I am satisfied that I made the right choice in buying the ToneWood over the Guitar, because changing it between instruments is as simple as buying more x braces and Installing them, at 30 bucks you cant go wrong with getting more Xbraces. It also sounds great when you plug it into an Amplifier, I use it to perform small gigs at the neighborhood clubs and cafes. if you are on the fence about buying one of these units go watch the Multitudes of videos out there on Youtube and judge for yourself, If you spend the money on it, I think you probably wont regret it. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing sound

I'm not someone who writes a lot of reviews but this product exceeded my expectations. Using it with a Yamaha A3R acoustic electric dreadnought. ~5 minute total installation time: took me 3 minutes to pull the strings off, another minute or 2 to clean out the dust and finally about a minute to install the magnets inside the guitar. The device holds snugly in the back, not in the way or really noticeable at all when playing. While the effects are limited, I find the options and settings for each are really all I would need for an acoustic. I did read some complaints on battery life but from my experience now after about a month - I'm not finding that to be an issue (still using the original batteries). Just have to remember to turn it off when done and unplug the cable from the guitar or I burn down my guitar's batteries. As far as the sound itself - this particular guitar was already pretty special as compared to other acoustics I own, but with the ToneWood effects - incredible!! I made this purchase kindoff on a lark, thinking I might end up regretting it. I honestly think this is one of the best spontaneous purchases I've ever made - I now can't imagine this guitar without it. ... show more
