  • The Sims 3
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
For the people who's been playing the sims since itcame out, the series has come a long way since it's birth. Each installment improve the quality of the game overall but the PC users got more of the cake than the consoles consumers. After the sims 2 came out on the xbox and playstation 2, i had high hopes for the series itself since it was a huge improvement from the original sims. Finally after years of waiting, we finally have The Sims 3 introduce to our next gen consoles. Was the years worth the wait? Find out with this brutally honest review of The Sims 3. In the original sims, you started at your mom's house where all you did was loafing around doing nothing while your sim mother was up and about doing her business. In the sims 2, you started off with roommates. Now in the sims 3, you don't have a mom around you nagging to fix the tv or get a job (sounding like somepeople life) or roommates right away. You have the option as always to make a family of your dreams. Where exactly? A place call Moonlight bay where dreams can either come true or utterly draw back on you. In the Sims 3, there is no story mode. It's more of a free mode. I'll explain it... If you want to create your very own family, you have the option to have your sims to a toddler to being an elder. The clothing is updated and you have the option to create your own style and upload to the EA server which has a sim store where other players upload sims, houses, styles, etc. You can customize your sim's face, pick his personality traits, a dream wish (have up to six kids, become a spy etc). You can have up to six people in a family. Note: if you want to start as a toddler, think of having a young adult in your family since you need someone to take care of the toddler. If you do a great job of raising the toddler, you will receive benefits (a extra trait for your sims personality). Do a bad job of raising your child and you will receive negative traits. Also if you are careless about your child, child services will come to your house and take the baby away (sounds like today somewhat). After your done making your family, you have the option to buy a house furnish or unfurnish. Depending on your income, you can choose to buy one of two houses they provide for you. When you first start off, it will be extremely difficult. Money will be an essential since you have to pay bills. You have the option to have a full-time job or a part-time job to your pleasure. A range of jobs include, police officer, journalism, medical, military, etc. When you first start off, you'll notice on the top right of the screen that you will see boxes that are call wishes. These wishes are your sim wishes that want to be fulfill. You can either accept them or deny them if you want. An example of a wish is your sim wishes to workout and completing that you will get 300 lifetime points which are points that you can buy to have your sim have the option to slack during work and still get paid, fast cleaner, etc. The more wishes you complete, the more lifetime points you get and to unlock hidden items. The old school sim controls are back. They took out the sims 2 movement where you don't have the large yellow or green light as your cursor. The green light is back. A minor drawback since the controls for sims 2 were great. I was disappointed that they didn't have the option to have the controls for the sims 2 in the game. Now for the karma powers, they are new to the game. You have your good karma and your bad karma. Some of the good karma includes, being smart for a couple of hours and learning skills easily, take out all negative moddlets, being lucky for a couple of hours etc. The more you use them, the more chances you have to have a negative karma happening. Think of it as balancing the game. The bad karma includes firestorm (where fire shoots down from the sky causing your house to burn down), epic fail (where your sim or sims in the town will have bad luck for awhile). Overall Pros - Can have multiple levels in your house - The new wish system keeps the game intertaining - Numerous ways of creating your sim - Clothing options has expanded - Have the option to move out of your house - New challenges that will keep you busy. - The Store Cons - Loading screen takes forever - No two players - No online mode Overall, this is a solid game for the xbox 360. Try it out and see it for yourself! ... show more

  • My real life is over, thanks to this game
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
It's been a while since I've been this addicted to a video game. I played the first Sims and I loved it very much though I felt there were definite limitations to the console version. Fast forward to the Sims 3, and it's definitely a much more fluid and fun experience than the first game that I played way back in the day. As someone mentioned here, it's fun to play God. It's even more fun when I have the chance to create real life friends in the virtual world (they even look and act eerily like the real people I know) and see what kind of crazy awkward situations you can put them in (or watch them flourish in specific job situations and/or hobbies/talents). This game is like a black hole that sucks away any sense of time you may have in the real world. On the first day, I sat through 11 straight hours without even batting an eyelash (other than to grab a quick bite or two and use the restroom). That's how addictive this game is. It's incredible that you can have so much control over everyone's lives, as well as how you make friends, interact with NPCs, and learn skills that really define who your Sims are over the course of their lifetimes. I also like how there is so much attention to detail in terms of how you can design and build the home of your dreams. You can landscape, paint, wallpaper, roof to your heart's content, and buy all sorts of cool stuff to put in the house. I have heard about the glitch involving people who have game freezes due to possibly too many objects in their inventory or game (I have yet to encounter this problem, fingers crossed) - however, I'm just being very careful about how I manage my stuff in game and am hoping that the problem doesn't affect me. The game controls fabulously. There is definitely a bit of a learning curve at first when you pick up the game. But once you figure it out thanks to some helpful tutorials, it will all make sense and feel like second nature to you. I do notice that there is a slight lag when it comes to load screens in game (and there are a lot of them) but for the most part it didn't distract me that much. I was too busy in my little sandbox, watching my Sims move up in life (and watching my kid grow up). Throw in some intrigue (such as one of my housemates bringing her lesbian lover home for some "woo hoo"), a little karma here and there (which is one great addition to the game - it really makes it fun when you can use 'powers' to create dramatic situations) and you have the recipe for an amazing game that will suck the very life out of you. My challenge now is to not ditch my real life friends because their Sim counterparts are just that much more interesting lol! ... show more

  • Better than I thought
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I bought this game for my preteen with hopes that it wouldn't be totally inappropriate. She had been playing a couple different Sims on her iPod touch and made me aware of anything questionable. So far, in my opinion, this game is a lot of fun and actually shows a lot about time and money management. As far as it being inappropriate for preteens, I believe they see a lot worse on television. The Sims use the restroom and it's blurred out. They do " Woo Hoo" which to me is no big deal. It's under the covers and pretty funny. They can try for a baby and then the Sim throws up here and there and walks around pregnant for a couple days. I haven't seen any violence but we picked our traits to be friendly and family oriented so I don't know what happens if those are different. This game can take up a lot of your time. I have to limit my daughters playtime or she would forget to take care of her own hunger, energy and hygiene icons =) ... show more

Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I have been playing the sims for many years now. i never bought 3 for pc because i dont have a computer to play it on at the moment. but i got it for xbox360 and i am loving it. All the details included keep me playing for hours. the only thing i dont like about the game is the time you have to sit and wait on your sim to go through a full day of work. but from shopping for ingredients, the opportunities that come about, exploring for gems and seeds, getting to know other sims, the wishes and so many other things i just love it. i have read that others complain about loading times. there actually isnt much waiting. i have an arcade system with no external hard drive attached and the loading times are very short. If you like it on pc, you'll like this for sure. ... show more

  • So much fun!
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I had never played a SIMS game before this one and I am completely addicted! It's a total "girl" game for sure :) The customization is so expansive that it's a little hard to get the grasp of at first, but once you get the hang of it you will be amazed at what you can create and customize. My suggestion to a first time SIMS player is: make yourself as a SIM and create around that. If you're married and have a toddler, make them too! I initially made a few random sims to play with but I quickly lost interest in their lives. Once I made my own little family, the game has gotten so addicting and I enjoy it so much! I would recommend this game for any stay at home mommy :) ... show more

  • I love this game; But I had some trouble
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I am a all-game gamer, and The Sims is one of those games I grew up on. I played the first two on the PC, and one on the PS2. I was more than excited to hear it'd be for the 360 too. Beforehand though, I did have doubt though from all the trouble I had with the PS2 version, since the first day after buying it new it lagged, graphics failed to load, characters would refuse to move, etc. Now, the Sims 3 on the X-box does not fail to fix all of these problems. I am still playing this game, and have not run out of things to do because of how limitless life really is inside of a Sims game. They have crystal graphics on characters that slow a bit to load when going into new environments, they have a wide variety of traits for just about anyone, and you can make your character be entirely free-willed or a mindless puppet. When you first load the game, after logging in about an hour, you'll notice that loading, movement, etc. all begin to slow and lag a bit. Thanks to the 360, the problem is easily fixed once you Install the game to the hard-drive. Now, for some problems I have had personally with the game. I maybe have one small scratch on the disk because of another person mistreating it, and because of that now my game has a random spasm which causes it to freeze-up. I have other games where they look like they've been to Hell and back three times, and run like they are brand new. The Sims 3 is one of those games where the disk needs to be perfection or you may experience trouble. Another problem, once you log to many hours in at once (ie. I logged in 12 hours in a day from having a day off from everything) the game has a partial freeze (from what I guess to be the system itself to be heating up, which could be cured from a cooling system) where your characters moves, loses energy, talks, all that good stuff but refuses to walk or do anything from that matter. He sat at the table refusing to eat, use the bathroom, take a shower, or go to bed as he bitched that he needed to do it, ordered himself to, still never did even when I told him to. Also, playing with six characters is Hell to keep up with, unless you make them mindless puppets, but where is the fun in that? But all in all, this game comes with more fun then problems you'll ever notice. If you look at this game and consider, it's a good buy. You'll have fun playing, and watching your characters grow up, fall in love, and just live life. Not only is it fun to play, it's also fun to watch others play as well! (: Thanks for reading! ... show more

  • The fun of The Sims 3 on your 360, if you can stomach the glitches.
Platform For Display: Xbox 360
I'm going to admit that I haven't had a ton of face time with this game. Sure, I know the ins and outs of it, how it plays and such, from watching someone else play it for hours on end (I bought it for them), but I've only done rudimentary stuff with it personally. I will say that what I played of the game is better then I remember the original Sims game being way back when, and very very much better then the original Sims port was for the PS2 when I had that. a game that swore me off console ports of Sims games. The fact that EA decided to simply port the entire game to the consoles, instead of just an objectives based half-port, is exciting to me. I'm also fairly surprised that they were able to map the buttons needed to play the game to a controller so well -they're a little convoluted, but they work. But, you might be asking, why don't I play it more then, if it excites you so much? Well, the answer to that is actually where the two stars I've knocked off come in. While watching the game be played one day, the person I bought it for and I decided to get something to eat and come back later. Okay, fair enough, save the game, turn off the console, go eat. Well, later when we came back to it and they loaded in their most current save -something you'd do with any game your playing. But when the save loaded the game became a choppy, corrupted mess. After closing the game and restarting the 360 multiple times, the game save itself was obviously corrupted. Obviously angry, we started a new game and built everything up over the next day or so. Next week, when we had more time to sit with it, the game was --again-- corrupted, pretty much everything lost to a horrible stutter-y mess. Now, we both knew that Sims games do this, its been a series staple to suddenly have your games get funky after so much work is done, usually in spite of your dedication. But you'd sort of figure that if your going to bring a game to the consoles, a game so well known to have bugs like this that its becomes a series wide joke, that a little more care would be taken to weed out the problems.. But, of course, that seemed to be asking a little much from The Sims and EA. Overall, if the game didn't corrupt on a irregular basis, for unknown reasons, I'd be playing it -and I still might on a separate 360 profile, so I don't net unwanted achievements on a game that I'll never be able to finish out. But the problems so bad that the person I bought it for isn't really even wanting to spend time with it any more, which kind of makes it feel like a waste of money. Tread with caution on this one. (Side note: As of writing this I'm pretty much 100% positive that EA's never bothered trying to patch the issue, though they did know about the issue when I spoke to them about it about a year ago) ... show more

Platform For Display: Xbox 360
Honestly, this game is great. The only thing I didn't like is that you can't have any pets. I'm addicted to this game. It's fun, entertaining, and there is so much to do. I think having the cars is a great feature. Before I purchased this for Xbox 360 I purchased the game from Verizon on EnV Touch. It was pretty much the same, but of course way better. But, the videos made it seem a bit funner than it actually was. Having kids is fun, I have 2 on one game and 1 on the other. It's a great game, and I'm so glad I got it. I've always been a huge fan of the Sims Series, this is my favorite. Get it and have fun! :) ... show more
