This is hands down the neatest science book for grim surfers I’ve ever seen. I’m so stoked I found it! It’s even a fun read for non- shredders that live near the ocean. The topics are well organized and each one is a quick read with really fun, bright art. Maybe even more emphatically, I would recommend this book for parents- both beach locals and those who live inland and drive their families to the beach. The science is the right amount of information for a non-science-y adult. It gives enough detail to get concepts across without being overwhelming or boring. The various topics and chapters can be used to support all manner of dinner table conversations that will inevitably come up while to living near or driving to the beach. I grew up surfing Newport and Huntington Beaches in the 70’s and 80’s and I can say that every bit of this book rings true. My first granddaughter is expected soon, and with her growing up in Hermosa beach you can bet her parents will be receiving this book and I’ll be collecting all of the Surfside Girls books for future gifts! This is a great book for learning about the ocean. We live a few hours away from the coast and spend a good deal of time on the beach. My kids have started asking how waves are formed so I started looking for a book to help them better understand my explanation. This one perfectly describes the process in a way that's interesting to them. And the chapters regarding sea life and other ocean phenomena are just as good. Really glad I settled on this one. This was more of an instructions book about how to surf rather then a story. However, the book was delivered in a timely manor and in good shape. 5 stars to the seller.
