  • Exceeded my expectations. Excellent book!
Format: Paperback
This book stands out. I’m a voracious reader of all things holiday folklore and mythology and this book is by far my favorite. It’s comprehensive, yet doesn’t drag on. It’s detailed but not dry and overly academic. It’s interesting, engaging and easy to follow without dumbing the story down for the reader. It’s like you’re having a conversation with the author. There are the basics of holiday lore that everyone has heard of like Krampus, Frau Perchta, Mari Lwyd, Gryla, the Yule Cat, Belsnickel, La Befana….all the ones you’re probably familiar with. However, there are 50 spooky tales, legends, ghosties and ghouls from all over the world in this book! Many were completely new to me and others I’d heard just bit and pieces about. Absolutely fascinating! I devoured this book in a night. I can’t recommend this book enough. This needs to be in your collection if this sort of thing is your jam. I honestly had pretty low expectations when I ordered this book because I’ve read so many books like this, but I’m delighted to admit I was wrong this time. This is a keeper! Get it! ... show more

  • An interesting and entertaining book you may want to check out.
Format: Paperback
As someone who has been a curious and voracious reader for more than 7 decades my reading interests have ranged from A to Z, from hardcore science to the strange esoteric topics. This is why while browsing on Amazon when I came across this 144-page soft cover book (The scary book of Christmas Lore: Forget about jingle bells & Jolly old saint nick by Tim Rayborn and illustrated by Neil Evans) I decided to purchase it. This the most unusual book I have ever read about Christmas time in that instead of happy experiences, this book is bout horrible folklore tales about Christmas. There are 50 horror stories from around the world in this volume. This book is also fully illustrated with horrible images of scary creatures. I found this book to be interesting and entertaining in a weird kind of way. If you like horror tales about Christmas time you may want to check out this book. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. • Scary Christmas Tales
Format: Paperback
I love how it covers some lesser known Christmas lore. Some of which I hadn't heard of before and others that I had heard of.

  • Decent read, but take note, it’s not in depth
Format: Paperback
I liked the short bits about different dark Xmas lore and I will say that it sparked my interest in researching more. For that the book is worth reading. If you want to get deep into the stories from the get go, this is not the tome for you. Think of this as a bunch of glorified and curated Google search/Wiki entries. Great toilet reading and honestly the illustrations are great! ... show more
