As far as retinol serums go, this one is very inexpensive. I wasn't sure what to expect, but this product feels luxurious going on, and I definitely saw results from nightly use of it. I just bought a second bottle. Highly recommend!

    • Non-irritating and fast results
Writing this now with the intention to update in a few months as I get further into using it. Great product so far that hasn't caused me any irritation. I was expecting this to be harsh for my skin because I've never used a retinol before and after buying it I read that you're really supposed to start with the 0.2% retinol solution. Even though I jumped to this one and I have dry skin, I haven't noticed significant irritation. I use a light moisturizer before I use this at night and then a deeper moisturizer after to be safe. What I have noticed is that after a week's use (every 3 days at night) along with vitamin c+e (every morning), is that my skin feels softer and pores seem much smaller already.     • Caused dry eye.
I had a reaction to this product. I applied to my face for a week or so, and at first, it seemed to cause a healing reaction where my skin was cleansing, pushing things out and it actually caused some acne. But I knew this was part of the process and it was for the better. My skin did improve and seemed to tighten and firm just like I wanted it to, but the unfortunate part was that I began to experience pretty pronounced dry eye symptoms. These symptoms lasted a few weeks and went away. I was worried that I had permanently harmed my meibomian glands (the oil glands in your eyelids that moisturize your eyes.) This is apparently a side effect that a certain percent of people experience with retinoids. I have to say, I'm upset that I can't use this product because I understand the mechanism that makes it effective. I must be one of the people who don't tolerate it well. I am considering grabbing the 0.1% retinol from The Ordinary and trying that some day in the future. For those who are experiencing dry eye from retinol and are worried that it'll last forever like I was... for me, it did not! I STOPPED the retinol immediately when I realized what was happening. It took about 2-3 weeks for the symptoms to go away. I also apply castor oil to my face and my eyelashes, so I think that kind of helped moisturize my eyes to deal with the dry eye temporarily. Now I'm back to normal! 4/5 for the product, I just wish I could tolerate it! ... show more

    • If you have hormonal acne YOU NEED THIS
Take it from someone who has struggled with acne literally their entire life. I have tried many many different topical creams, face washes, toners, masques, etc. you name it I have more than likely tried it. I've given myself numerous chemical burns because my skin is very sensitive. I have taken EVERYTHING out of my daily/ nightly routine because this bad boy works so well. My pores have shrunk, my skin is much softer, my skin actually glows, and not from it being oily, it really is a great product overall. I use to have about an 8-10 step nightly routine and now it's a 3 step process. I use micellar water, The Ordinary toner, and retinol before I go to bed. Retinols take TIME to work, which is why I used this product every other night for 6 months to really see the results. I just finished the bottle, so it lasted a long time. As you can see, my red spots have faded DRAMATICALLY! I don’t get cystic acne anymore because of this product, however I still have some texture and white heads. This is a lower strength retinol, so now that I have finished this product I am graduating to the 1% version of this product to really target the texture. I did purge at the beginning but it was SO worth it! Sunscreen is a MUST with any retinol and I found that to be true with this product, my skin would get red on days I forgot sunscreen.     • It's truly a great product
I'm 46 and born and raised in the south Coast Sun of Texas. No sunscreen and living by the pool and at the beach so I have to really try to find affordable skincare products. The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% product is thick and leaves my skin dewy and vibrant and my 18 yr old daughter who takes very good care of her skin said she wanted her skin to look like mine. I thought I was hearing things. But she said mom whatever your doing is working I highly recommend this product I use it on my chest hands are and sometimes on my legs and tummy after a bath it's very thick and only takes a small amount so I once a week use it on my body it fells so good.
