I found the best workaround is to apply a pea-sized amount as the final layer of my evening routine, or right before a simple moisturizer, allowing each preceding serum to fully dry down first. Fixed my problems in ONE use

I’ve been using prescription azelaic acid for a good couple years now, but recently it’s been out of stock at my pharmacy. I had like a week-ish without it before I just ordered The Ordinary brand for the interim & in the week without I was noticing my skin texture was rougher than normal, breaking out more than normal etc. I’m NOT even exaggerating when I say I used this ONCE. Night ONE. And the next morning my skin was legitimately back to normal. I was shocked to say the least. Now, my breakouts weren’t just magically cleared up but they were less inflamed, my skin redness was less, my skin texture was back to normal & the only thing that changed was adding in this cream one time. Price is great, product is even better. The cream itself is really thick which I honestly like, especially for night time use. I always take reviews like this with a grain of salt, but my skin is sensitive, acne prone, all the things. I strictly use prescription skincare but this being as close as it is to that has worked beautifully & I highly recommend giving it a try!

Simple product that actually works

Great for Texture and Redness, but the Formula Takes Some Getting Used To

I started using The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% because I wanted something simple for uneven-looking skin, occasional blemishes, and the redness that can linger after breakouts. Overall, I think it is a very good product, but the texture keeps it from being a perfect 5-star experience for me. The results are the strongest part. With consistent use, my skin started looking a little more even and calmer, especially in areas where I usually notice redness or post-blemish marks. It is not an overnight product, but after sticking with it, I could see why azelaic acid has such a good reputation. It also feels like a nice middle ground between doing nothing and using harsher exfoliating products every day. What surprised me most was how gentle it felt compared with stronger acids. I did not get the same stinging or aggressive exfoliating feeling that some other treatments can cause. That makes it easier to keep in a regular routine. The one thing I do not love is the suspension texture. It has a thicker, almost silicone-like feel, and if I use too much or layer several products on top, it can start to feel heavy or pill. I found that using a small amount and keeping the rest of the routine simple works much better. I also prefer using it at night because of the texture. It gives it time to sit on the skin without having to worry about how it behaves under sunscreen or other daytime products. Been very helpful for dermatitis so far

I have had this periorificial dermatitis on my face for about 5 months now. I’ve tried every method possible to try to get rid of it & nothing has worked. The first picture is where it was at its worst at the beginning of October. I had been doing a “nothing” skin care routine for weeks where I basically just washed my face with water. I finally asked Chat what other options I had & it suggested azelaic acid so I immediately bought it. At first my skin flared up but the last picture was taken today after 2 weeks of use twice a day and my skin has looked the best it has in MONTHS. I’ve been using azelaic acid consistently for about three months now, twice a day, and I’m really impressed with the results. As a Black woman, one of my biggest skin concerns is hyperpigmentation and the dark spots pimples leave behind. Even when the pimple is long gone, that dark mark will stay forever Since using this, I’ve watched my older dark spots go from really dark brown to lighter brown, and now they’re slowly blending back into my natural skin tone. It’s definitely not overnight, but if you’re consistent, you can actually SEE the progress. My skin tone looks more even too. I also have sensitive skin and haven’t had any issues using it twice a day. I keep my routine simple with Cetaphil face wash and lotion, azelaic acid, and Black Girl Sunscreen every morning. I recently added retinol twice a week at night and I love how everything is working together. If you’re a Black girl dealing with dark spots and hyperpigmentation, I definitely recommend giving azelaic acid a try. Three months in and the difference in my skin is noticeable. 🤎✨
