- Wave the wand and the light goes on - Wave it again, and it turns off!
- Using the plastic key that was included in the wand tray, insert key into the bottom of the wand and rotate counter-clockwise to remove battery cap.
- Insert 2 AAA batteries (not included) with the '+' sides facing into the wand and the '+' sides facing the battery cap for both batteries. Both batteries are facing the same direction.
- Once the batteries are properly installed, replace the battery cap by rotating the cap in a clockwise direction by hand. You will need to use the key to tighten the cap until snug. Be careful not to overtighten or strip the key slot
- Light on Wand is activated and deactivated with a quick flick of the wrist or a tap on a surface
- Once the light is on, press and hold down the button to increase or decrease light intensity. If the light does not dim or illuminate when pressing the button, release and try again. Be sure to hold the button down. Once you reach the desired setting, release the button. The wand will remember the setting you leave it at whenever you turn it off and back on again. This can be adjusted at any time by repeating the process

I'm 22, and I love it.
Yes that's correct, I'm 22 years old and I bought this toy for myself ;) I've always been a huge fan and I grew-up with the characters, but I'm usually only ever extremely nerdy in my own house. This toy is wonderfully fun, I bought it, believe it or not, because I'm aways waking up in the middle of the night to get a drink or use the bathroom, and I thought this would be much sweeter than a flashlight or a night light. It is larger than the collectable wands, and much less in quality than them too, but that's because this is a toy. It's larger because two batteries need to fit in there, and quite obviously made of plastic.I can't stress this enough to those negative reviewers, you're paying for the Harry Potter name, the price is not going to go down. I'm an avid collector, and yes it's as much as the collectable wands even though I myself would consider it less of a collectable and more of a toy, but it's also ten times more fun since it really does light up with just a flick of the wrist, and off again in the same manner, which is better than any other light-up wand you'll find out there. My conclusion: If your'e willing to spend the dough, this really will be worth it, you or your child will go bonkers for it. To you it may look too fake, but to your kid, they are a real wizard! How big of a price tag can you put on that kind of joy? By far the most fun thing I've added to my collection of HP items. And I plan to use it constantly.

Excellent wand!
Bigger than expected but still works perfectly for casting light spells. However, the wand still struggles with stirring potions. 🤪🤣

Really fun cosplay prop
This is a _really_ fun Harry Potter cosplay prop. Something not made clear in the listings for the wand is that the odd looking round-ended tab with a hole in it, at the bottom of the wand, is actually a removable 'key' for the battery compartment's screw-on end cap. You would normally not have that key there when using the wand, and it won't stay there on its own. Removing the key makes the wand look much better in use. A down side of the wand's design is that the motion and touch sensitivity is pretty easy to trigger, and there is no 'on/off switch', other than using the key to open the battery door a half-turn or so and disable the light feature. So when carrying it around while doing cosplay, but not intending to make it light up, you'll probably want to use that key to deactivate it to save battery power and avoid accidental light-up moments. Then just a quick twist of the key is needed before playing with the wand's light-up feature. Having the key is nice, and it would be easy to attach to a con badge lanyard with a loop of cord. But designing the end cap to be able to use a coin to turn it might have been better. If you lose the key, a flat blade screwdriver of the right size could probably be used to turn the end cap.

Wanderful Toy Collectable
Great plastic wand. Sturdy. Light turns on and off with movement. Didn't really have noticeable effect using dimmer button. Battery compartment opens with key- don't lose it. Overall great gift for Potter fans.

Sparks the Imagination
A birthday present for my 9 year old granddaughter. She was absolutely thrilled. The wand has enough detail on it that it isn't just a plastic stick. It is true that it is very sensitive. A slight flick turns it on and another flick turns it off. I showed her how to use the very small key to disengage the batteries when not in use. So far, we put batteries in it in June and now it is August and have not had to replace the batteries. She doesn't play with it everyday, but often enough and for long periods of time. She loves that by pushing the small leaf you can make the tip of the wand grow brighter. The case is very nice and substantial. She loves the picture of Hermione on the front.

My daughter loves this wand
We've been reading the Harry Potter books at bedtime all summer, so my daughter is very happy to have Hermione's wand. It's very easy to use, just insert two AAA batteries (not included). The tip lights up when you flick your wrist and there is also a brightness adjustment button. It's plastic and basic, but it gets five stars because my daughter loves it. Comes in a nice box as well.

Super cool lighted wand for Harry Potter costume!
As many other reviewers have said, this wand is very very touchy and turns on and off all the time. Even so, they are really wonderful for a Harry Potter or Hermione costume, and my kids loved carrying them during Trick or Treat. They were expensive, but I would buy again given how excited my kids were to get them.
