  • Beautiful desert style designs
The pictures are beautiful. The design is primarily focused on the Arizona desert style not Santa Fe Native American. It is a beautiful book.

  • Good decorating ideas for a Southwest home
Moving to the southwest and needed ideas for a new home. It’s an ok book. Thanks.

  • Note the 'New' in the title, not 'Traditional'. Know what you're getting.
The title mentions 'New' Southwest Home, and that is indeed what you'll find here. If--like myself and a few other reviewers here--you were looking for a more classic Santa Fe / Adobe / Spanish style of house, you'll find this book comes up short. Only about a third of the pictures show houses that are arguably in that style. The remainder of the photographs are of contemporary kitchens, imaginative kids rooms, media rooms the size of small theatres, and modern, extravagant bedrooms that you could easily envision in a New York apartment were it not for the cactus outside the window. There are only a few exterior shots, so consider this an interior design book. Furthermore, the vast majority of these homes are obviously owned by the trust fund / stock option set; don't expect to duplicate these looks at Walmart. If you enjoy looking at pictures of gorgeously decorated interiors where cost was no object and can set aside practical thoughts such as the need to hire a full-time cleaning staff or the damage your kids could cause in a room full of lit candles and antique pottery, this is the book for you. I'm not going to downgrade this book just because it wasn't what I was expecting. It gets at least three stars for its beautiful photography and its excellent illustration of the color palettes of the Southwest. I gave it another star for mostly avoiding the cliche Cowboy and Indian Southwest motifs, such as bull horns on the wall (only 1 picture thankfully), Indians in a feathered hairdress (Plains Indians, not Southwest), or Totem poles (Pacific Coast Indians, not Southwest) (just a few pictures each thankfully). For extra credit, see if you can spot the same little green lizard that appears in at least three different homes. I could probably swing the green lizard. ... show more

  • The ideas represent very high cost options but could be a diy launching pad
This book has given me many ideas on how to decorate my own house

  • Wonderful inspirations
Moving from Florida to New Mexico is a learning experience. Styles of homes and furnishings are very different as one might expect in leaving the tropics for the desert. This book gave me beautiful pictures to help in the transition and build a home with style. I highly recommend it for beautiful concepts in decorating and design and those who desire pictures to get creative juices flowing! ... show more

  • Old, tired ideas!
Was so excited to get this book and looking forward to getting some great decorating tips for our new home. However, the photos are very dated if you are looking for more on trend or modern southwest design. Very disappointed. That being said, it’s “on me” to be more thorough when reading reviews and description. ... show more

  • Best Book.
We bought three Southwest Design books to help us with our new home in the red-rock country of S. Utah, and this one was by far the best. Excellent photographs and ideas. Highly recommended.

  • Good not great
Some good ideas but in my opinion not many great ideas.
