Understanding what is here explained is essential to achieving masterful motorcycling. Like understanding countersteering, which motorcyclists also do but don't realize that they actually do. Often they will not realize or accept it until they ride a motorcycle with a fixed, welded handlebar set. In this case, gear shifting, we have here an exercise in writting something that could also be described with video and images. If you work through the text, you arrive at a real understanding of gear shifting on motorcycles. It covers everything. It is however in need of graphics, diagrams, tables, even links to videos. Complement your reading of the book with videos on motorcycle gearboxes. It does seem this is the only book on the matter. Not surprisingly. If you downshift with an instant clutch less technique, do not do it on the street in a turn! Get ALL braking and downshifting done before any moderate to fast turns or aggressive lean angles. That said, a public road is not a race track!!! Tracks are clean, smooth, have good visibility THROUGH turns, and have no cars. Ride safe. ... show more
